Project Officer - Business Development

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management -  To understand project design and participate in planning and project activity implementation

  • Support planning, coordination, and implementation of project activities in cocoa, vanilla, and regreening initiatives.

  •  Develop annual and quarterly workplans aligned with project goals.

  •  Monitor progress against timelines, budgets, and targets, and report on achievements and gaps.

  •  Ensure compliance with project policies, donor requirements, and environmental and social safeguards.

  •  Identify risks and propose practical solutions to keep activities on track.

  •  Maintain accurate project documentation, field visit reports, and data records.

  •  Work with Madang Commerce Department to conduct training on cooperatives management

  •  Develop training IEC material on how to cultivate selected drought tolerant crops  in English and in Pidgin for the target farmer groups.

 

Cooperative Organizational Strengthening and Management

  • Developing training resource materials for savings groups.

  • Conduct community awareness on Savings for Transformation model to members.

  • Identify and select interested members of the target communities to form savings groups and elect office bearers.

  •  Conduct training on Savings For Transformation to registered members on how to manage and operate successful savings groups.

  • Conduct financial literacy training (GIFT/SMEC modules) for savings groups members.

  • Provide support to the community-based Savings Groups through – Channel of Hope & Cocoa Family Farm

  • Develop and maintain records of savings Groups and committees.

  • Conduct audit and restart of new savings cycles. Network good performing savings groups to micro-banks for the savings group members to access banking services.

Foster an interdependent working culture amongst the local target communities 

  • Implement projects activities through multi-sectoral approach - using participatory processes to involve every sector of community membership.

  • Collaborate with community self-help groups, built relationships and gain the trust of the members of the local communities.

  • Actively engage transparently with community leaders, women’s groups, and youths to understand local community dynamics so that everyone is involved and engaged in the project activities to gain total community support.

  • Support capacity building for cooperatives and farmers in alternative livelihood options

Maintain networks with other NGOs & Govt authorities

  •  Liaises with ward councilor, village chiefs, women leaders, youths and other members of the target   communities to mobilize members of the target communities to actively participate in project activities.

  • Build working relationship with Madang provincial and district commerce staffs provide technical support to establish savings groups and conduct financial literacy trainings.

  • Work with Cocoa-Vanilla farmer group and Cooperatives, CBOs, youth groups and other agencies in the communities to share skills and knowledge on Climate Smart Agriculture technologies on vanilla and cocoa production.

  • Work with Cocoa Vanilla value chain actors to maximize return on investment for farmers and cooperative.

  • Share lessons learnt with stakeholders in the district and province.

 

 

Monitoring, evaluation and reporting

  • Assess and evaluate the progress of the project activity against DIP on a monthly basis.

  • Collect and keep relevant information & data of the project and submit to the project supervisor on a monthly. 

  • Compile monthly Activity Implementation Report

  • Maintain Confidential written records

  • Ensure adherence to reporting requirements

 

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION/SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Certificate or degree in tropical agriculture
  • 2-3 years’ experience in Cocoa and vanilla industry and sound knowledge of the cocoa-vanilla value chain.
  • Certified training certificate (advantage)
  • General knowledge in cocoa and vanilla value chain and development
  • Specific knowledge in business development and working in cooperative
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office, data collection tools (e.g. Kobo, CommCare), and report writing
