Skechers is seeking to hire a Project Manager to join our Distribution Centers (DCs) team. This person will provide integration and IT project management for warehouse automation, material handling, and process improvement projects for our Europe DC, including a large scale, complex project for distribution in Europe that will revolve around integrated material handling systems. The Project Manager will lead and work closely with global, cross-functional team members to deliver projects on-time and within-budget while meeting project goals & objectives.

Essential Job Functions

  • Subject Matter Knowledge:  Be well versed in all of the engineering disciplines covered by a given project in order to properly integrate the building, material handling system, WMS, IT infrastructure, and operation
  • Supplier Evaluation, Selection, and Management:  Organize and support the evaluation & selection of technologies such as AS/RS, AMRs, AGVs, conveyors, sorters, WMS integrations, and vision systems and, subsequently, manage the relationships with these technology partners in support of the projects
  • Leadership:  Lead integrated project teams to execute major material handling infrastructure projects and drive these projects to their successful conclusion by managing and motivating the project team, resolving conflicts, removing roadblocks, and taking any other actions required
  • Communication:  Effectively communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences, including but not limited to project team members, customers/end users, and management
  • Reporting:  Deliver reports on project status, including weekly and monthly reports
  • Collaboration:  Develop & maintain project repositories for each project to facilitate document sharing and archiving and author all required project management documents, including project charters, RACI matrices, etc.
  • Cost Control:  Manage project budgets and leverage previous experience to evaluate costs; produce monthly financial reporting, and perform monthly cash flow forecasting
  • Schedule Control:  Keep projects on schedule by, at a minimum, reviewing each functional area schedule for completeness, evaluating schedules holistically for the purpose of coordinating and aligning functional area schedules to optimize the overall project schedule, and proactively tracking & managing critical path activities, dependencies, and key tasks
  • Resource Management:  Efficiently distribute tasks across various project areas and phases to ensure timely and within-budget project completion—a strategic approach to balancing workload, optimizing team performance, and mitigating risks is crucial
  • Risk management:  Identify project risks, develop project risk registers, and manage risks appropriately—avoidance, transfer, mitigate, monitor, etc.
  • Integration:  Manage each vertical (building, MHE automation, IT, Operations, etc.) and be responsible for coordinating and aligning between the verticals; for the large project, work as a team with the other project managers to ensure seamless integration between the verticals
  • Operationalization:  Manage projects through the ramp-up and acclimation phase, taking the steps necessary to ensure that the Operations teams can run the system as designed and achieve the design rates, including but not limited to identifying the need for and organizing additional training sessions, identifying the need for and driving the development of additional training and tools, bringing on additional resources to support the start-up, organizing and orchestrating system stress tests, and managing the resolution software/system issues & implementation of software enhancements
  • Project Completion:  As appropriate for the project, oversee or support commissioning & testing, job walks, punchlist generation/management/sign-off, and final sign-offs, including governmental and regulatory sign-offs; organize & conduct post-project meetings, such as lessons learned reviews.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering field is required
  • 2+ years of distribution fulfillment center experience that involves working with WMS, WES/WCS, and automation equipment daily is required
  • 8+ years of project management experience managing highly automated distribution center or fulfillment center CAPEX projects, with each project totaling over $1M in spend being highly preferred
  • Project Management certification (PMP) is highly desired
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Teams, and Project—advanced knowledge of Excel is desired, including use of pivot tables and writing formulas
  • Customer focused and customer service-oriented mindset
  • Highly collaborative working style and ability to listen, understand, influence, and prioritize competing needs and build consensus
  • Excellent planning, organizational and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent judgment, superior critical thinking, and strong decision-making skills, including risk evaluation, outcomes assessment, and solutions determination in a timely manner
