Project Manager, Operational Excellence

Job Summary:

Leads the planning and execution of projects that assess operational performance, identify gaps and risks, and deliver improvement solutions while managing multiple large‑scale initiatives and ensuring disciplined project control across the organization.

Job Description:

  • Leads cross‑functional teams by facilitating meetings, aligning stakeholders, and coordinating roadmaps, documentation, gap identification, and analytics development to drive consistent, effective project execution.

  • Develops and manages comprehensive project plans, timelines, and budgets, steering execution from initiation through close‑out to deliver outcomes aligned with scope, schedule, and financial objectives.

  • Monitors project schedules, scope, risks, KPIs, and deliverables daily, performing root‑cause analysis, identifying early warning signals, and implementing corrective or escalated actions to maintain performance and prevent delays.

  • Applies project learnings, best practices, and external insights to enhance planning efficiency, strengthen decision‑making, and build a knowledge library that accelerates issue resolution and continuous improvement.

  • Ensures adherence to the Project Execution Model, safety standards, and regulatory requirements while managing documentation, compliance records, and audit support to reinforce operational reliability and quality.

  • Manages resources, stakeholder expectations, procurement activities, and vendor performance while supporting emergency preparedness and restoration activities to maintain project stability, organizational alignment, and readiness.

  • Leads, models and ensures consistent application of policies and regulatory standards across teams to support ethical operations and mitigate compliance risks.       

  • Leads and validates the planning and execution of restoration and emergency preparedness activities to strengthen operational resilience and response capacity.

  • Assumes and oversees expanded duties aligned with organizational priorities and professional scope to drive departmental effectiveness and strategic alignment.

Additional Job Description:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Project Management or related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience

  • 5 years' experience in a similar functional role with knowledge in operational practices, equipment, components, processes and department interactions preferably in a electrical utility environment.

  • Experience developing project plans, timelines, and deliverables using project management tools.

  • Additional education may substitute for the required experience when it aligns with the competencies and knowledge necessary for the role: Master’s degree in a relevant field may substitute when accompanied by a minimum of 3 years of experience performing related functions and at least 2 years of experience working as Project Manager or 5 years as a Project Coordinator.

Competencies (Skills)

  • Expert knowledge in Project Controls scheduling, tasks development, WBS, Costs, Estimating, Risks and Reporting (to Regulatory and Federal Aid Agencies).

  • Solid Understanding of Earned Value Analysis and Management for monitoring, tracking and reporting of project progress updates.

  • Solid understanding of quality management and continuous improvement principals (Agile methodology, ISO 9001, Sigma 6, Lean, etc.)

  • Strong communication abilities, with proficiency in presenting, facilitating meetings, and collaborating effectively across all organizational levels and stakeholder groups through multiple channels.

  • Knowledge of OH&S safety regulations and comprehensive understanding of applicable municipal, state, and federal legislation.

  • Excellent organizational, time‑management, planning, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

  • Proven capability in project execution and contractor management, ensuring quality, compliance, and timely delivery.

  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities, with attention to accuracy and detail.

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision while maintaining high performance and accountability.

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, MS Projects, Primavera P6, Computer based Earned Value.

  • Strong English communication skills (both oral and written).

Licenses/Certifications

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or Program Management Professional (PgMP) certification is preferred.
