Position Overview: 

The Project Manager ("PM") is responsible for managing a portfolio of funding agreement projects from initial assignment through final payment and contract closeout. This role requires demonstrated project management skills, critical thinking, and the ability to navigate complex requirements and timelines. The PM collaborates with internal and external partners to develop capitally eligible project scopes, obtain City approvals, and monitor project implementation.  

The position requires external communication with non-profit clients regarding their financial and political condition, so the PM must tactfully handle sensitive subjects to advance projects. The PM is responsible for managing project documentation and understanding and monitoring the financial progress of a project through its financing and requisitions.  

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage a large portfolio of funding agreement projects at various stages of completion by coordinating the work of funding recipients, attorneys, multiple funding sources (such as banks), City agencies, etc.  
  • Work with funding recipients to access in-house and external resources, effectively navigate governmental processes, and adhere to detailed standards.  
  • Liaise with partner agencies including the Law Department, Office of Management and Budget, and the Department of Cultural Affairs to advance required approvals.  
  • Communicate with funding recipients and internal clients in a clear, consistent, tactful way that considers unique political circumstances and other relevant information like financial and staff capacity.  
  • Maintain accurate project records, analyzing project deliverables, and reviewing requisition and funding documents and other pertinent project records.  
  • Develop and apply relevant skills in financial analysis and contract review.  
  • Identify and suggest new tools and opportunities to streamline existing processes to implement projects more effectively.  
  • Assist with annual reporting and other departmental duties as assigned.  
  • Assist with the department’s programming efforts, such as developing presentations and other duties as assigned. 
  • Assist with data collection, maintenance of department Excel dashboards, and reporting specific to the Funding Agreements project portfolio.   
  • Other duties as assigned.  

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Finance or Economics background preferred but not required.  
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience; non-profit or public service experience is preferred.  
  • Demonstrated project management skills.  
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver presentations. 
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and analytical and creative problem-solving abilities. 
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).  
  • Demonstrated ability to work proactively and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Demonstrated quantitative skills, particularly in Excel. 
  • Knowledge of New York City's communities and political landscape.

  • New York City residence is required within 180 days of hire.  
Salary Range
$68,000$70,000 USD
