Job Purpose
This role will coordinate and manages the two-year FMNR HERITAGE Project which seeks to adopt FMNR model to reach out to farmers to restore degraded lands and increase soil health for improved food security among rural smallholder farmers in the Nadam District in the Upper East. The role holder is required to scale up Farmer-Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) and by working with traditional authorities and local land users in restoration planning and utilization. He/she is expected to build capacity and share knowledge on best and sustainable practices, Fire management and run campaigns promote to protect regenerated areas, farmer field schools and peer learning exchanges. He/she is expected to organize eco- clubs, women, men, pastoralist, actively involved in restoration enhancing inclusiveness and labour availability. The position holder is also required to integrate direct programming, external partner-led spread, community-led spread, and the creation of an enabling environment. The Project Manager is required to use existing national and regional stakeholder forums, including platforms coordinated by government institutions and development partners working on restoration and climate resilience to promote dialogue among stakeholders. Key Responsibilities
Oversee the overall management and operations of the FMNR HERITAGE Projects in Ghana
- Providing technical input to the programme in alignment with their area of expertise
- Overseeing the management of the project budget (in close collaboration with WVG finance staff)
- Coordinating and planning for the effective involvement of other on-going FMNR projects relevant technical staff from WV Germany and WV Ghana to ensure meaningful contributions are made to enhance project effectiveness
- Leading the preparation of programmatic reports and annual plans and budgets for the donors and providing regular briefs and updates on projects progress.
- Facilitating semiannual planning and budgeting processes for the overall programme
- Preparing for engagement of audit reviews and quality assurance procedures
- Timely delivery of all project outputs and activities, maintaining and ensuring high standards of quality
- Selection, mentoring and supervision of programme team members required for the effective delivery of the programme or assigned to the project (communications, admin and others)
Project Coordination
- Coordinating and facilitating effective in-country team functioning, including ensuring that the strengths of all the participating partners are fully exploited
- Monitoring programme progress and quality and providing support to country teams to devise and undertake relevant corrective measures as needed
- Supporting country team to prepare annual detailed implementation plans and budgets
- Ensuring project partners are fully briefed on their responsibilities, deliverables, work plans, budgets, partnerships and programme status
- Coordinating the execution of work plans and assist in the translation of the philosophy and objectives of the programme into appropriate methods and approaches, in order to ensure quality and effective programme delivery
- Coordinating the work of project team including ensuring they are fully briefed on their responsibilities, deliverables, and work plans, as well as available budgetary resources
- Supporting the development of appropriate documentation (policy briefs, position papers, communication messages, position statement) to engage in policy processes
- Manage relations with the donor organisation through the dedicated WV Germany programme manager
Partnering, Networking, External Engagements and Communication
- Identify and build strategic linkages, relations, collaborations and networks with partners and other stakeholders in planning and implementation related FMNR, Climate change & OSCA
- Build and maintain cordial relationships with the District Assemblies, decentralised agencies of governments, private sector and other relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation of the Regreening project.
- Increase the visibility of the project through engagement with relevant stakeholders
- Conduct frequent monitoring to generate information on project implementation.
- Participate in networking meetings and guide members to obtain mutually beneficial and optimal ways to enhance livelihood activities.
- Explore potential linkages and build alliances when appropriate to ensure optimal program quality.
- Represent FMNR projects at foras, meetings, workshops, conferences and contribute to technical interactions and discussions.
- Ensure communities participation of youth and community leaders in social cohesion and peace building
Grants Resource Acquisition & Management
- Identify problems and opportunities within project locations and formulate them into concepts and proposal for project scale-up
- Participate in the development of concept notes/proposals for resource acquisition especially livelihood interventions
- Build and strengthen relationship with private sector players or donors to explore funding opportunity for scale up
- Generate evidence from our work in the field to attract donor funding
- Work in collaboration with the NO team and WV Germany support office to position for and pursue opportunities in both development and humanitarian sectors
Field-level monitoring & Other Responsibilities
- Participate in field-level review meetings, visit field project sites, provide hands-on support to project implementation teams as needed Prepare monthly reports on the status and results of projects implementation.
- Perform other duties as required by the Resource Acquisition and Management Associate Director
Preferred/desirable skills and experience
- At least 5 years of progressive experience engaging in or managing international development projects.
- At least 3 years’ experience managing multi-country development projects/programmes.
- At least 5 years’ experience in people management, strategic planning, risk management, and project management techniques and tools.
- A good track record of exemplary management of complex, multi-stakeholder projects and programmes including capacity to negotiate and facilitate activities across multiple organizations.
- Experience with participatory approaches, especially related to farmer innovation would be an advantage.
- Experience in working in both a development and research organization would be an advantage.
- Experience of working in similar fields in Ghana is desirable.
- Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversity
Required Education
- Minimum of master’s degree in project management, environmental science, restoration, agroforestry, development or agriculture or a similar field.
- A good and demonstrable understanding of the technical sides to the programme with strong technical expertise in a relevant field desired
