Project Lead Design Controller Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL)
Position Overview
JLL is seeking an experienced Project Lead Design Controller to oversee and coordinate design management activities across multiple commercial real estate projects. This role combines project leadership with technical design oversight, ensuring design deliverables meet client requirements, budget constraints, and timeline expectations while maintaining JLL's quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Management Lead cross-functional project teams including architects, engineers, consultants, and contractors throughout the design development process. Coordinate project schedules, monitor milestone achievements, and ensure seamless communication between all stakeholders. Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining focus on deliverable quality and client satisfaction.
Design Oversight & Quality Control Review and approve design documentation at all project phases, from concept development through construction documentation. Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, accessibility requirements, sustainability standards, and client specifications. Conduct design reviews and coordinate resolution of technical issues with project teams.
Budget & Cost Management Monitor design phase budgets and track expenditures against approved allocations. Review consultant fee proposals and change orders for accuracy and reasonableness. Collaborate with project managers to identify cost optimization opportunities without compromising design intent or quality.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement Serve as primary design liaison with clients, presenting design concepts and progress updates. Facilitate design review meetings and coordinate stakeholder feedback integration. Manage client expectations regarding design timelines, costs, and deliverable scope.
Technical Coordination Ensure coordination between architectural, engineering, and specialty consultant designs. Review interdisciplinary drawing sets for conflicts and inconsistencies. Oversee Building Information Modeling (BIM) coordination processes and maintain model standards.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field. Minimum 7-10 years of experience in commercial real estate design and project management.
Demonstrated expertise in design phase project management, including experience with office buildings, retail spaces, industrial facilities, or mixed-use developments. Proficiency in project management software, BIM platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite required.
Essential Skills
Strong leadership abilities with experience managing multidisciplinary teams and complex stakeholder relationships. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to present technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Detail-oriented approach with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, and accessibility standards. Understanding of construction methods, materials, and building systems. Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and contracts.
Working Conditions
This position requires occasional travel to project sites and client meetings. Some evening and weekend work may be necessary to meet project deadlines.
