JOB SUMMARY

The Project Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the execution of medium to high complexity (Path 2 and Path 3) projects from initiation, design, execution, and completion, as well as communicating effectively with stakeholders to ensure that every aspect of the project is completed on time. The Project Coordinator is also responsible for foreseeing potential roadblocks and finding appropriate solutions to mitigate or eliminate so that they don’t impede a project’s success.
 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential responsibilities of the job include but are not necessarily restricted to the following:

  • Lead and manage medium to high complexity distribution projects effectively and efficiently, adhering to Hydro Ottawa Project Management Processes, guidelines, and PMBOK principles, to ensure successful project outcomes

  • Identify project goals, needs, and scope, and develop comprehensive project plans to achieve them

  • Prepare detailed budget for medium to high complexity projects

  • Tender, evaluate, recommend awarding, administer contracts, and manage contractor for both internal and external work forces, ensuring that all contractors comply with Hydro Ottawa standards, specifications and work procedures

  • Initiate and monitor project construction, project finances, and project status using the enterprise resource planning system, preparing cost variances as required

  • Monitor and ensure all tasks, deliverables, and project materials are delivered promptly in adherence to project timelines

  • Effectively communicate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders ensuring clarity on project, scope and outcomes, managing stakeholder expectations, providing status updates, and ensure stakeholder satisfaction

  • Analyze risks and opportunities associated with medium to high complexity projects and develop and implement mitigation plans to effectively manage risks throughout the project life cycle

  • Provide process improvement recommendations to management and other internal work groups

  • Liaise with all Hydro Ottawa divisions/groups and external contacts as required to ensure that all projects are executed to meet Hydro Ottawa technical and customer experience requirements, budget and schedule

  • As the primary point of contact, communicate and coordinate with customers, developers, consultants, contractors, representatives from the city, other utilities and other outside agencies to ensure timely and accurate execution of projects

  • Provide interpretation of Hydro Ottawa technical specifications to external consultants and contractors

  • Leveraging technical expertise, review and recommend construction design and peer design proposals as per the Design Approval Process, ensuring that all designs meet Hydro Ottawa standards and regulatory requirements

  • Ensure adherence to the Contractor Safety Management Program

  • Prepare and issue Health and Safety and Ministry of Labour (MOL) documentation such as job planning, MOL project notification, etc.

  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of project construction work is to design standards and the requirements of Regulation 22/04 and take corrective action as necessary

  • Prepare all appropriate contracts and agreements using applicable templates

  • Coordinate material management that may include evaluating, inspecting, testing, and forecasting

  • Participate in the preparation of technical standards, guidelines, and specifications

  • Review, prepare and present reports associated to project status, budget, material, timeline, etc as directed by line management

  • Provide feedback on processes and equipment failures, and recommend corrective actions to promote continuous improvement in project execution

  • Coordinate field equipment commissioning, delivery, and installation

  • Prepare or assist with design related training material and deliver or assist in delivery of training, mentoring of peers and students

  • Participate in project related community events such as Open Houses for medium, large or complex projects by providing project overviews and answering questions as required

  • Complete service layout work for medium to high complexity projects as required

  • Complete civil plant inspections for medium to high complexity projects as required

  • Ensure as-built information is accurately gathered and recorded in GIS

  • Ensure mandated applicable regulatory timelines are adhered to for energy infrastructure development initiatives such as DER (Distributed Energy Resources) and EV (Electric Vehicle) charging connection applications

  • Coordinate and oversee work packages for fiber installation projects

  • Perform other related duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Post secondary education (diploma) in Electrical Engineering Technology, or related Engineering technical discipline  

  • Minimum 2 years’ relevant experience, preferably with an electrical utility

  • Minimum 1 year project management experience

  • OACETT certification, or eligible for certification within 2 Years

  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Project Management Institute (PMI) Certification, or eligible to obtain within 2 Years

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid driver’s license – Class G

  • Successful completion of Driver Competency Assessment

  • Government of Canada security clearance

  • English essential, both oral and written

  • Bilingual (English and French) considered an asset

The terms and conditions of employment for this position are governed by the collective agreement between Hydro Ottawa Limited and IBEW Local 636.
