Minimum Requirements:

  • 5 years of experience in project controls, cost analysis, or financial planning within a project-based Oil & Gas environment
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical or Chemical Engineering
  • Understanding of cost control systems and tools (e.g. Primavera P6, SAP, EcoSys, Oracle, MS Project)
  • Strong collaboration skills to work across and within multiple production unit teams and plants/ facilities to effectively manage project cost
  • Excellent communication, change management, non-authoritative leadership and organizational skills

Responsibilities:

  • Develop project funding requests and maintain cost systems, including work breakdown structures (WBS) and cost coding
  • Monitor and analyze project costs, commitments, and expenditures to identify trends and risks, supporting forecasting and change estimates
  • Prepare cost reports, performance metrics, and variance analyses to inform project leadership and stewardship decisions
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, and scheduling teams to ensure cost alignment with contracts, change management, and integrated cost/schedule controls
  • Participate in project reviews, audits, and closeout processes, ensuring proper documentation and cost reconciliation
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and industry best practices for cost control

Location and other Key details:

  • This is an office-based role. You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • This is an office-based role with occasional travel throughout Canada and the USA
  • Our engineering professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
