Purpose of the job
The Project & Maintenance Engineer – B2B, Retail and Terminals (Ground fuels and Aviation) is responsible for planning, executing, and supporting maintenance and construction activities for fuel infrastructure serving commercial and industrial customers. This includes bulk fuel installations, LPG systems, generators, and customer-owned facilities, ensuring assets are safe, compliant to regulatory and company standards, reliable, and fit for purpose in African operating environments.
The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible specifically in the areas of:

Main duties
- Maintenance Planning: Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance for all Retails, B2B and Terminal fuel assets, including ground fuel sites and LPG facilities.
- Technical Support: Support breakdown response, fault diagnosis, and permanent repair solutions while monitoring asset condition to escalate integrity and safety risks.
- Project Delivery: Deliver B2B, Retail and Terminals construction, installation, and upgrade projects, including new customer sites, capacity expansions, and system modifications.
- Documentation & Design: Prepare scopes of work, technical specifications, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), cost estimates, and schedules.
- Supervision: Supervise contractors to ensure works are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to specification.
- Commissioning: Support commissioning, testing, and handover of projects to customers and operations.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with HSE, petroleum, LPG, and environmental regulations; participate in risk assessments and permit-to-work systems.
- Quality Assurance: Support inspection, testing, and certification of assets (tanks, pressure vessels, and piping) and verify the quality of construction works.
- Contractor Management: Coordinate specialist service providers and ensure quarterly contractor performance reviews regarding safety and productivity.
- Financial Tracking: Track maintenance and project costs against approved budgets and identify opportunities for value engineering.
- Stakeholder Interface: Act as the technical interface with customers and support commercial teams with technical inputs for proposals.
- Frequent site visits to retail fuel stations and construction sites
- Exposure to forecourt, underground fuel systems, and construction environments
- Office-based planning and reporting work - project lifecircle close outs and capitalisation
Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Petroleum, or Process Engineering
- HSE or project management certification (advantageous)
Experience:
- 4–10 years experience in downstream oil & gas, fuel distribution, LPG, or industrial energy systems.
- Hands-on exposure to Retail, B2B and Terminal fuel installations and customer sites.
- Experience working in African operational environments preferred.
- Proficiency in maintenance planning, construction supervision, and cost estimation.
- Familiarity with CMMS/EAM systems and reporting.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a safety-first, customer-focused mindset.
