Job Summary: The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the Office of Academic Appointments and Internships (OAAI). OAAI is a central management and administration office committed to supporting the academic and career enhancement of interns and fellows throughout the Institution. Major Duties:

  • The Program Specialist manages fellowship and internship programs by supporting the recruitment, onboarding, and oversight of fellows and interns (academic appointees) throughout the Smithsonian. In this position, you will: Maintain, interpret, and revise Smithsonian policies and procedures for higher education programs, identifying problem areas and opportunities for improvement. Prepare publicity and/or marketing materials for academic programs and recommend changes and revisions of existing materials (including electronic information). Maintain a working relationship with the Office of Global Affairs regarding the status of visa applications for international scholars.

Qualifications: Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as providing support to a fellowship and/or internship program, including assisting in the recruitment and onboarding of fellows, assisting in the creation of publicity and/or marketing materials and coordinating with international scholars to maintain residency requirements.
