What You Will Do:
We are searching for a Program Policy Expert. This role will provide high-level expertise in support of NIH prioritization of human-based research and efforts to reduce/replace the use of animals in biomedical research, drug development, and regulatory testing. They will bridge policy development, analysis, and implementation; anticipate scientific/regulatory challenges and strategies; develop long-term plans; identify infrastructure needs; and support internal and external community-building activities to accelerate a transition toward human-relevant, non-animal methods. The individual will work with intramural and extramural stakeholders, regulatory scientists, and the broader research community to identify barriers, develop solutions, and advance innovative technologies to modernize science and improve public health outcomes. This is a full-time hybrid opportunity supporting the office in Bethesda, MD.  

  • Provide subject matter expertise on special cross-cutting and ad hoc projects, attend special regional, annual and ad hoc meetings and participate in working groups.

  • Build and support effective communication strategies for the Division and public presentations of the program and its constituent activities.

  • Prepare progress reports, summaries, descriptions, and other materials to communicate with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Develop summaries of project status and performance for review with upper management.

  • Stay abreast of related projects to identify opportunities to improve and accelerate progress.

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum of EIGHT (8) years of experience biomedical research and/or policy/program management.

  • Demonstrated expertise in non-animal research models.

  • Strong background in policy development, implementation, and analysis.

  • Skilled in strategic planning and program alignment.

  • Experience preparing policy briefs and technical reports.

  • Proficient in project management, including website content oversight.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).


What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy preferred.

  • Prior experience with NIH or HHS agencies preferred.

  • Proven ability in community engagement and capacity building.
