This position is part of Novanta’s Advanced Surgery business unit. Specialized in the field of Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS), WOM develops devices and accessories to allow doctors to perform surgery with small incisions only. We develop and manufacture Insufflators, Medical Pumps, and tubing solutions to simplify diagnosis and treatments. Our Insufflators and Pumps dilate cavities to allow surgeons access to relevant organs or joints, essentially turning previously complicated open surgeries into minimally invasive procedures with less patient risk and shorter recovery times. Together with customers, doctors, and technical experts, our teams continuously search for new ways to innovate.

Summary

This position is responsible for the development of a new medical device including tube sets and accessories for a dedicated medical OEM customer. Typically, the development consists of a customized console and related tube sets.

Depending on the size of the development program, this position will have   project managers and systems engineers assigned as direct reports. This team acts as an interface to the customer and all internal stakeholders.
 

The role covers typical tasks and responsibilities of a team manager and program management, such as planning, monitoring and reporting.

Primary Tasks

  • Main tasks for a product development program (NPI)
    • Identify and define projects as part of the overall program
    • Achieve commitment to scope of program (PG2) with customer and all internal stakeholders
    • Ensure execution of project plans incl. milestone plan, in committed time, cost and quality with dedicated project manager and engineering teams
    • Responsible for project costs (commited budget)
    • Monitor deliverables for NREs together with project managers and key account manager
    • Reporting program status updates as well as phase transitions to the executive management and to the customer
    • Accountable for Identification and mitigation of program risks
  • Main contact from R&D for customer and other internal stakeholder
  • Ensure fulfillment of customer expectations & customer satisfaction
  • Build long-term relationship with customer
  • Managing the team:
    • Coaching of team members
    • Involved in hiring activities
    • Conduct annual appraisal process
    • Support AOP planning
  • Escalation of critical program parameters to the R&D management and senior management

General Tasks

  • Implementation of the departmental and product group strategy
  • Coordination with other program managers on processes, interfaces and cross-sectional tasks
  • Active participation in the innovation process & continuous improvement
  • Strict compliance with quality, occupational safety and environmental regulations.
  • Implementation of the instructions of the quality / environmental management representative and the occupational safety specialist.

Required Experience, Education, Skills, Training and Competencies

  • Min. of 3 years’ experience in project management/program management
  • Medical device experience is a must
  • Leadership competencies
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English, German at least on B2 level
  • Proven track record of completed projects (with minimum budget of more than $5Mio)
  • Experience with classic project management as well as agile project management
  • Positive attitude and intercultural sensitivity

Travel Requirements
