Program Coordinator - Military & Veterans Resource Center - Adjunct

This position in the Military & Veterans Resource Center (MVRC) assists in the coordination, delivery, and assessment of programs and services for military-affiliated students at Grand Valley State University. This part-time (20 hours/week) role contributes to community building, student engagement, and operational support for MVRC initiatives, including programming, outreach, supervision of student employees, and coordination with campus partners. This position works closely with the MVRC Director to support effective daily operations of MVRC spaces, programs, and communications. This role requires strong organizational and communication skills, a student-centered approach, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced campus environment. This is an in-person position primarily based on the Allendale (Valley) Campus, with additional responsibilities at the Veterans Lounge in the DeVos Center for Interprofessional Health (DCIH) in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Salary & Benefits:

Minimum starting salary of $30,000, commensurate with experience.

This is a part time position up to 29 hours per week.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Coordinate and support MVRC programs, events, and initiatives, including workshops, community-building activities, and signature programs, by assisting with logistics, scheduling, communications, set up, and day-of execution to ensure a high-quality student experience.
  • Assist with the planning, implementation, and assessment of MVRC programming and engagement efforts, including developing timelines, supporting learning or engagement objectives, collecting participation data, and contributing to post-event evaluation and continuous improvement.
  • Support daily operations of MVRC physical spaces, including oversight of veteran lounge areas, ensuring spaces are welcoming, inclusive, functional, and serve as a visible staff presence for students.
  • Supervise, train, and support student employees and/or VA Work-Study students in coordination with MVRC leadership, including onboarding, scheduling, task delegation, time-tracking support, and ongoing guidance to ensure effective service delivery and professional development.
  • Assist with outreach, communications, and marketing efforts by drafting and updating website content, social media posts, flyers, and email communications; coordinating messaging calendars; and ensuring information is accurate, timely, and accessible.
  • Track participation, engagement metrics, and programming outcomes by maintaining existing systems and contributing to the development of new tracking tools and processes to support internal reporting, assessment, accreditation, or compliance needs, and strategic planning efforts.
  • Provide frontline support and appropriate referrals for military-affiliated students, responding to general inquiries, assisting with navigation of campus systems and resources, and connecting students to MVRC staff or campus partners when additional support is needed.
  • Assist with budget tracking, purchasing, and reconciliation related to MVRC programming and operations, including processing purchase requests, tracking expenditures, maintaining records, and supporting responsible stewardship of funds.
  • Support collaboration with campus partners, student organizations, and community agencies serving military-connected populations by assisting with communication, coordination, and joint programming efforts.
  • Participate in committees, meetings, and special projects related to student success, community engagement, or MVRC initiatives as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned by MVRC leadership in support of the mission and goals of the Military & Veterans Resource Center.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, student affairs, social work, counseling, public administration, or a related field.
  • Experience working with military-connected students, veterans, dependents, or military-affiliated populations.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating programs, events, or student-focused initiatives.
  • Experience supervising or supporting student employees or volunteers.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with common office and communication technologies (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, email platforms).
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and access for military-connected students and their families.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of military culture and/or VA education benefits.
  • Experience with student engagement tracking, assessment, or data-informed decision making.
  • Experience in creating outreach or marketing materials (e.g., Canva, social media platforms).
  • Prior experience in a resource center, student success office, or community-based program.
