The Department of Government in the School of Public Affairs at American University invites applications for one term faculty appointment for the 2026-2027 academic year. The appointment is at the rank of Professional Lecturer and will commence on August 31, 2026, through May 31, 2027.
Applicants should hold a PhD or other terminal degree. Highly qualified applicants with a master’s degree related to political science will be considered at the rank of Instructor. The position will require the incumbent to teach three undergraduate or M.A. courses per semester (Fall 2026 and Spring 2027) in political science with a substantive focus on American Politics (AP). We are especially interested in applicants who can teach Applied Political Writing (GOVT 443/643), Political Power and American Public Policy (GOVT 210), The Presidency (GOVT 320), and Applied Politics and American Public Policy (GOVT 620). All faculty are expected to hold office hours and participate in School and University activities and service.
Salary and benefits are competitive, with an expected salary range of $70,000-$74,000.
