Job Description Summary:

This position will provide administrative support to the Professional Standards Unit (Internal Affairs) through a variety of tasks, responsibilities, and projects that require a high degree of discretion and confidentiality.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES         

  • Triages incoming phone calls and emails to determine if they are complaint related, compliment related, or seeking information regarding the department.

  • Directs this information to the correct individual within the agency or to other agencies as appropriate.

  • Redacts sensitive documents to include, but not limited to, police reports, body worn camera video, phone calls, interviews, and audio files.

  • Gathers documents necessary to an internal affairs investigation to include, but not limited to, police reports, Computer Aided Dispatch records, 911 calls, non-emergency calls for service, body worn camera video.

  • Processes finalized Use of Force reports.

  • Reviews and gathers information regarding Photo Enforcement Violations issues to Boulder Police Department employees.

  • Reviews and gathers information regarding traffic crashes involving Boulder Police Department employees.

  • Maintains records and assists with statistical gathering and publishing of that data.

  • Maintains employee anniversary dates, retirements, and promotional dates and coordinates with appropriate vendor for making awards.

  • Assists with other administrative duties as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Ability to be flexible in day-to-day job assignments.

  • Ability to understand the diverse needs of internal and external customers and to successfully meet those needs.

  • Ability to become certified using the National and State Computer Crime Computer System within 90 days

  • Ability to complete work in a timely and efficient manner to meet deadlines

  • Ability to handle confidential information.

  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.

  • Ability to work effectively in formal and informal teams.

  • Knowledge at an exceptional level of Word and Excel.

  • Skills in proofreading and editing to include excellent grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to maintain acceptable criminal conviction history.

  • Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of Axon systems

  • Knowledge of Department Policies and Procedures

  • Knowledge of the Boulder Community

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Two (2) years prior experience in an office environment, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION  
Qualified applicants will be required to complete several stages of interviews and testing, pass a job suitability assessment and complete a thorough background investigation. Applicants must be able to demonstrate personal and professional honesty, integrity, sound judgment as shown in applicant’s criminal history, background, motor vehicle record, and use of drugs and alcohol. Preference will be given to applicants who have no history of use, sale or possession of illegal substances. Polygraph or Computer Voice Stress Analyzer will be used for verification of applicant information.  Prior to employment, successful applicants are required to pass a drug screen. Some positions will also require medical and/or psychological testing prior to employment.  
  
The following will disqualify any applicant from consideration:  

  • Any felony conviction  

  • Commission of a felony, whether convicted or not within the past 5 years  

  • Commission of any non-traffic related misdemeanor, whether convicted or not within the past 3 years  

  • Excessive number of traffic violations  

  • Any marijuana business ownership or interest within the past 3 years  

  • The use, sale, possession, or transfer of any illegal controlled substance within the past 2 years (examples: Cocaine, Heroin, LSD, Methamphetamine, MDMA,)

  • Unlawful sale or fraudulently obtaining any controlled scheduled substance with the past 5 years (Examples: Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines, Sleep Medication, Codeine, Morphine, etc.)

  • Use of a substance prescribed to another person will be reviewed for substance type, frequency, and length of time.

  • Any false or untrue statements or material omissions in the application and related paperwork or during the selection process.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS    

  • Physical and mental effort: Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities that permits the employee to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person. Sufficient vision or other powers of observation that permits the employee to review, evaluate, and prepare a variety of written documents and materials.  Sufficient manual dexterity that permits the employee to operate computer equipment and other office equipment.  Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to work in an office setting.  Work may include extended periods of time viewing a computer video monitor and/or operating a keyboard.  Ability to work under stress from demanding deadlines, public contact, and changing priorities and conditions.

  • Work environment: Primarily in a clean, comfortable environment.  Works in a setting subject to continuous interruptions and background noises.

  • Machines and equipment used include but are not limited to the following: Frequently uses standard office equipment including personal computers, telephones, cell phones, photocopy machine, calculator, scanner, facsimile machine.
