This leadership role is accountable for academic clinical practice in alignment with VHA’s strategic directions, provincial priorities, emerging trends and changing practice expectations. The role provides clinical leadership to support the advancement of professional nursing and PSW practice, research and education. The role facilitates the translation of knowledge, ensuring providers work to full scope of their role by advancing standards of care and professional practice with oversight of the nursing clinical leads. In partnership with operational leadership, provincial funders and other key stakeholders support the implementation of innovative and relevant care models that enhance client outcomes. The role is critical in aligning work within and across clinical programs and organizational practice priorities. The role focuses on the integration of care, client quality and safety, use of technology to enable care, quality improvement and research to meet a diverse and evolving client population.
Key Areas of Accountability:
- Contribute to the development of ongoing strategies and initiatives to enhance client care and outcomes.
- Collaborate with operational leadership in the development of care models or workflows that align with care requirements and in response to changing system requirements.
- Lead knowledge translation and change management related to organizational and professional practice standards.
- Collaborate and maintain positive professional relationships with VHA’s internal and external stakeholders to support the optimization of client care and recovery
- Support capacity building in resilience and adaptability among the clinical team in collaboration with clinical leads and regional/program leadership.
- Promote and contribute to practice environments that encourage learning, application of knowledge and research.
Key skills, experience and behaviors required for this position:
- Master’s degree (focus in Nursing or Education preferred; others considered based on relevance to the role) required
- Registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario, with preference given to candidates with CCHN(C) certification
- 5 years progressive experience in nursing, with at least 2 years experience in a home/community OR 2 years experience in an acute care setting.
- Minimum of 1 year of demonstrated ability to successfully lead or implement projects at a level of a unit/team or organization
- Registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario, with preference given to candidates with CCHN(C) certification
- Ongoing membership with professional association (E.g. RNAO, CNA)
- Holds current academic appointment/eligible for academic appointment (with application to appointment within one year of hire)
- Ability to promote and influence clinical leaders and staff engagement
- Demonstrated leadership skills in advancing professional practice
- Strong clinical practitioner with an ability to use knowledge-transfer techniques to put research–based knowledge into practice
- Demonstrated expertise in facilitation/implementation, sustainability and evaluation of program outcomes
- Strong understanding of the CNO Scope of Practice, Regulated Health Professions Act, and other regulatory practice standards as it relates to Nursing and working with unregulated care providers (UCPs)
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and effectively in both in-person and remote/virtual team settings – technological proficiency with MS Office 365 suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, video conferencing) and ability to learn in a technology-supported work environment will be necessary
- Valid driver’s license and use of a car on the job required to travel between office/training sites
