Job Description

Title: Production Test Technician 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Inspect, operate, and test completed products to verify functioning, machine capabilities, and conformance to customer and company specifications
  • Diagnose faults of malfunctions to determine the required repairs using engine diagnostic equipment and calibration devices
  • Test and adjust engine systems to meet performance specifications
  • Position and align components for assembly, manually or using hoists, and set and verify parts clearances
  • Rework, repair, and replace damaged parts or assemblies
  • Read and interpret assembly blueprints and specifications manuals, and plan assembly or building operations
  • Maintain and lubricate parts and components
  • Assemble systems of gears by aligning and meshing gears in gearboxes
  • Verify conformance of parts to stock lists and blueprints, using measuring instruments
  • Fasten and install piping, fixtures, or wiring and electrical components to form assemblies or subassemblies
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas
  • Provide training to personnel as specified in the departmental training matrix
  • Identify and reduce non-value-added work
  • Perform special projects as may be required and maintain on the job flexibility by providing support in quality, assembly and other production related areas

Basic Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED and 2 years in a mechanical, engine or automotive trade school or equivalent Associates
    Degree; or 3 years of experience in engine assembly and/or testing

Preferred:

  • Intermediate knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Intermediate knowledge of engine control systems, design, assembly and function
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing and production processes, raw materials, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of goods (Quality Alerts, Second Checks, etc,)
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and the ability to use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations or standards
  • Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills where problems are complex
  • Basic interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with other employees
  • Basic ability to interpret blueprints, build documents, schematic drawings, layouts or other documents regarding engine assembly and testing
  • Basic oral and written communication skills
  • Basic reading, writing and math skills
  • Basic PC knowledge and the ability to efficiently operate computer terminals and scanning devices
  • Ability to interpret Statistical Process Control (SPC) and operate scanning devices for system communications
  • Knowledge of MTU products, policies and procedures
  • Experience in engine control systems, design, function and assembly, including marine applications
  • Ability to obtain appropriate power vehicle license (Flatbed, Hi-Lo, & Mule) when necessary
  • Ability to work any shift and overtime as required
