Job Summary

Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Steam Boiler Gas Plant and/or Turbine equipment. This includes water treatment systems, circulating water systems, condensate/feedwater systems, boiler systems, turbine systems, generator systems, control systems, electrical systems, and various other plant systems. Inspects, repairs, and maintains various types of plant mechanical, hydraulic and steam related equipment. This includes pumps, boilers, turbines, valves, compressors, couplings, safety valves, fans, heat exchangers, and various other devices. Is required to show initiative in his/her area of responsibility.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities:

 Estimates starting time for idle generation units under the direction of a Sr. Operator and follows prescribed startup procedures to bring units on line at a specified time under the direction of a Sr. Operator or Supervisor.

• Reads meters and records data at specified intervals in appropriate logs and computers.

• Immediately reports malfunctioning equipment of abnormal meter readings/equipment performance to the senior operator or supervisor and completes the appropriate records.

• Provides mechanical, electrical, and instrument controls skills for maintaining mechanical equipment including steam and combustion turbines, generators, boilers, pumps, motors, fans, compressors, valves, valve actuators, condensers, heat exchangers, vessels, cooling towers, power transfer equipment (i.e. gearboxes, belt systems, hydraulic couplings, linkage systems), hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, water treatment equipment, coatings, and buildings and grounds.

• Performs troubleshooting and documentation, and assists in the resolution of problems discovered during the shift.

• Ensures safety compliance of self and others.

• Perform clearances in LOTOV under the direction of a Sr. Operator or Supervisor.

• Understands basic (1) AC/DC Circuit Theory, (2) Digital and Analog Circuit Theory (3) Power Plant Cycle Theory, and (4) Mechanics

• Maintains a working knowledge of all electronic control systems and computers.  This knowledge is required to assess information and make changes to ensure safe, reliable operation.

Education, Experience & Skill Requirements:

• High School diploma or GED equivalent

• 1 year related experience in a related industry or

• 2 years related experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills

Key Metrics:

• Verifies the satisfactory operation of equipment using logs, charts, meters, controls, and visual inspections.

• Communicates unit operating status with appropriate in-plant and external groups (PSO, TGM, GAPS, etc.).

• Maintains plant operating history through timely completion of plant logs and required documentation.

• Perform routine and emergency maintenance on the plant instrumentation and control systems with minimum supervision, including weekends, holidays, and scheduled shift.

• Assist in the design and implementation of O&M and Capital Projects.

• Performs all work in compliance with Safety Handbook. 

• Understands and follows current safety and environmental regulations necessary to conduct all phases of work.

Entry level position with at least one year of experience in related industry.

Welding skills, any mechanical skills, electrical skills, blueprint reading skills or any I&C skills is a plus.
