Job Title: Production Supervisor                                      

Division: HIP – Westlake Pipe & Fittings

Department: Extrusion

Reports To: Production Superintendent

Schedule: Night Shift 2/2/3

SUMMARY  

Supervise, direct, and develop personnel in the safe and effective utilization of the plant's manufacturing facilities.  Produces those products to the company's and customer's specifications according to production schedules.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Complies with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Performs the primary thinking encompassed by this job description.
  • Performs and promotes the use of the SafeStart/5-Why program for root cause problem solving.
  • Administers the Westlake Safety Program on the production shift level; including, but not limited to, conducting safety training, shift meetings, inspections, reporting, incident investigation, and follow-up.
  • Completes accurate and timely reports and paperwork including any documents generated during the shift including but not limited to; Shift Reports, SAP Production Reports, QC Calc Report, shift personnel's attendance, overtime, and disciplinary events.
  • Recommends alterations and redesign of equipment through use of root cause analysis as they become either obsolete, or in need of alteration or redesign.
  • Directs, supervises, and develops personnel to meet or exceed goals and objectives such as production output, scrap rates, material utilization, and regrind usage.  Also recommends promotions, demotions, and disciplinary action of shift personnel. 
  • Directs, supervises, and develops the personnel within their responsibility regarding the quality of the product to Westlake standards, to include testing and record keeping.
  • Oversees the effective and timely changeover of production lines to meet customer requirements.
  • Maintains self-appearance, morals, comments, gestures, befitting a representative of Westlake.                   
  • Conducts actions on the job with professionalism.
  • Attend Supervisor’s meetings as required.
  • Responsible for the total housekeeping of plant during the work shift and enforcing all housekeeping policies.
  • Any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct supervisory responsibility for designated shift

QUALIFICATIONS 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma and at least five years' (preferred) experience working in a production environment with a thorough understanding of PVC extrusion cause and effects.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk.  The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to sit.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Spending adequate time on the production floor resulting in typically no more than 20% of shift spent in office.

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid/cold conditions and moving mechanical parts.  The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.  The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
