Our flagship manufacturing plant is seeking a high-potential Production Engineer to join our Accelerated Leadership Rotational Program. This role is designed for engineers who want to master the technical and operational heart of our business.
You will begin your journey in a foundational Production Supervisor rotation, where you will lead and direct the operational activities of a production team. Following the successful completion of this rotation, you will transition into other engineering and leadership functions (such as Process Engineering, Reliability, or Project Management) to develop a comprehensive understanding of our manufacturing lifecycle.
Primary Areas of Influence
Operational Excellence: Tons produced and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
Product Stewardship: Quality standards and customer complaint resolution.
Safety Culture: Safety of all personnel and operating equipment.
Environmental Stewardship: Real-time environmental monitoring and compliance.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Phase 1: Production Leadership (Initial Rotation)
Safety Leadership: Serve as a visible role model for safety, maintaining a healthy environment according to MSHA and EPA regulations. Lead daily safety meetings/toolbox talks, and conduct thorough workplace inspections.
Personnel Management: Lead Operators, and Maintenance personnel. Provide hands-on training, support, and performance feedback.
Process Monitoring: Oversee all equipment operating parameters to ensure productivity and quality targets (tons produced, reject quantities, and lab specs) are met for diatomaceous earth and perlite production.
Technical Problem Solving: Identify and resolve productivity roadblocks. Direct shift maintenance for immediate repairs and collaborate with the Maintenance Manager on long-term reliability strategies.
Data-Driven Decisions: Manage accurate computerized data entry for production reports, labor hours, and quality control trends.
Incident Management: Provide immediate communication and investigation of accidents, near misses, or significant safety concerns.
Phase 2: Engineering & Strategic Optimization (Future Rotations)
Continuous Improvement: Implement standards and procedures to support the evolution of product quality and process efficiency.
Project Integration: Translate frontline operational experience into capital project planning and process design.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with the site Engineering Manager to bridge the gap between theoretical process design and practical shop-floor execution.
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, or a related technical discipline).
Skills & Qualifications:
Strong leadership potential and the desire to manage people in a heavy industrial environment.
Analytical mindset with the ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical or chemical processes.
Excellent communication skills to effectively lead diverse crews and present data to management.
Physical & Environmental Aspects
Work Environment: This position operates in a "boots-on-the-ground" manufacturing and mining environment. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dust, noise, and industrial machinery is expected.
Physical Demands:
Mobility: Frequent walking, standing, and climbing of stairs/ladders throughout a large-scale industrial facility
Lifting: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
PPE: Must be able to wear all required safety gear, including hard hat, steel-toed boots, safety glasses, and respiratory protection as required by MSHA/EPA.
Compensation:
$85K - $100K plus bonus (base salary based on education and experience)
