Scope
The Production Scheduler is responsible for developing, maintaining, and communicating detailed production schedules to ensure on-time delivery of customer orders while optimizing production efficiency and resource utilization. This role serves as a key liaison between Customer Service, Production Leads, Purchasing, and other departments to balance demand and capacity, address scheduling conflicts, and meet company goals for delivery performance and inventory control.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Planning & Scheduling
- Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules based on customer orders, forecasts, and available capacity.
- Adjust schedules as needed in response to changes in demand, equipment downtime, material shortages, or staffing issues.
- Coordinate with Purchasing to ensure materials are available to meet schedule requirements.
- Coordination with Customer Service
- Communicate order status, delivery dates, and potential delays to the Customer Service team in a timely and professional manner.
- Review incoming orders and forecasts with Customer Service to confirm production feasibility and establish realistic delivery commitments.
- Collaborate on rush orders, order changes, and customer prioritization decisions to balance customer satisfaction and production efficiency.
- Maintains Customer Excellence tracker
- Collaboration with Production Leads
- Work closely with Production Leads and Supervisors to communicate daily priorities, resolve schedule conflicts, and monitor progress against the plan.
- Gather feedback from leads on capacity constraints, labor availability, and equipment performance to maintain accurate and achievable schedules.
- Coordinates with Production Supervisors to maintain machine/labor hour capacity
- Participate in daily or weekly production meetings to review performance, discuss upcoming workload, and adjust schedules accordingly.
- Data & Reporting
- Track production progress, analyze variances from schedule, and recommend improvements to increase scheduling accuracy.
- Monitors OTIF% and provides input for subgoal performance
- Maintain accurate records in the ERP or scheduling system, ensuring data integrity for reporting and analysis.
- Generate and distribute scheduling reports and performance metrics (e.g., on-time delivery, schedule adherence).
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement process improvements in planning, communication, and coordination to enhance workflow efficiency.
- Support cross-functional initiatives related to capacity planning, lead time reduction, and production efficiency.
- Supports production rate maintenance – collaborating with Supply Chain, Engineering and production.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations Management, Supply Chain, or related field preferred.
- Experience: 2–5 years of experience in production scheduling, planning, or manufacturing coordination.
- Skills:
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Analytical mindset and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to shifting priorities.
