Job Summary:
The Production Engineering Engineer – PLC & Automation is responsible for the development, programming, troubleshooting, and optimization of PLC‑controlled manufacturing equipment and automated production processes. This role focuses on industrial controls, PLC logic, HMI applications, and automation support for existing and new production equipment.
The engineer works closely with Manufacturing, Operations, R&D, and Equipment Vendors to support production, improve reliability, and implement automation solutions that drive safety, quality, and efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
PLC & Automation
Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs for manufacturing equipment using Allen‑Bradley Logix platforms (Studio 5000 / RSLogix).
Develop, modify, and support HMI applications using FactoryTalk View.
Diagnose and resolve automation, controls, and electrical issues to support daily production.
Support commissioning, FAT/SAT, and startup of new automated equipment.
Maintain and improve PLC code, HMI standards, and automation best practices across production lines.
Support safety circuits, interlocks, alarms, and machine states within PLC logic.
Manufacturing & Production Support
Provide hands‑on technical support to Operations to minimize downtime and improve equipment performance.
Collaborate with Manufacturing and Design Engineering to ensure smooth transitions of new or modified equipment into production.
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to automation, reliability, and process efficiency.
Analyze equipment performance data to identify improvement opportunities.
Equipment & Process Development
Support the selection, specification, and integration of automated manufacturing equipment.
Work with equipment vendors and integrators on controls design, testing, and documentation.
Support the design and implementation of test fixtures, inspection equipment, and special tooling as required.
Ensure sustainability and safety considerations are incorporated into automation solutions.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related field
OR equivalent experience in industrial controls and automation.
5+ years of experience working with PLC‑based control systems and HMI applications in an industrial manufacturing environment.
5+ years of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering for machinery or production equipment.
Required Technical Skills
Strong experience in Allen‑Bradley / Rockwell Automation environments:
Studio 5000 Logix Designer
RSLogix
FactoryTalk View
Strong understanding of:
Industrial automation and controls
Electrical schematics and control panels
Sensors, actuators, and industrial instrumentation
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and mechanical prints.
Experience supporting production equipment in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement.
Experience with AutoCAD Electrical for electrical schematics and panel layouts.
Experience with SolidWorks (mechanical context).
Experience working with automated test equipment or inspection systems.
Exposure to Lean 3P (Production, Preparation, Process).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Medium work: lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally and up to 20 lbs frequently.
Ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, and work near industrial equipment.
Ability to work in confined spaces and around electrical systems as required.
