The Role:
Our site in Toronto, CA is seeking a Production Analytical Chemist (1st shift) to join our team. The ideal new hire in this role will bring in-depth knowledge of analytical chemistry and techniques applied to the characterization of complex mixtures, specifically ICP-MS and ICP-OES. This knowledge is required to troubleshoot, develop, and optimize analytical methods for routine and non-routine QC analysis to support the Manufacturing and Engineering Teams. Due to the complex nature of sample matrices, this opportunity allows the right person to expand upon their technical skill set and participate on a dynamic team in a growing organization.
This position will require the new hire to work Monday-Friday from 8am-4pm EST.
What You’ll Do:
Perform sample digestions using strong acids (HF, HNO3, etc.…) followed by ICPMS or ICP-OES on in-process, raw materials and Finished products for release.
Conduct chemical and/or physical analyses as defined by existing work instructions on routine and non-routine samples using analytical instruments including: ICP-MS, GC, GC/MS, HPLC, IC, UV-Vis, NIR, KF, etc. (First Shift: 8 am – 5 pm Monday through Friday, limited weekend and/or holiday coverage may be required based on business needs)
Manage ICPMS, ICP-OES and clean room supplies; monitor health of clean room and Ultra-Pure DI-water system quality.
Utilize advanced knowledge and training in ICPMS method development, validation/verification.
Effectively troubleshoot instruments and resolve any hardware or software issues
Work on cross-functional teams as the analytical subject matter expert
Train other personnel to analyze samples or perform other laboratory tasks
Follow and improve safety guidelines and maintain a clean and orderly environment (5S Guidelines)
Use proper controls for analytical instrumentation; Validate and verify data and take corrective action when necessary
Support quality initiatives as they relate to the customer, corporate objectives, quality planning, the quality policy, process improvement and new business goals and objectives; communicate with customers, suppliers and other resources in order to achieve these objectives
Expand upon personal job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, special project teams, and reading technical publications
What We Seek:
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Analytical Chemistry or relevant area of study is required; MS preferred
5+ years of experience in operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining analytical instrumentation (ICP-MS and ICP-OES). Working experience with LC, LC-MS, IC, IC-MS, GC, GC-MS) is a plus.
Proficiency in reviewing and evaluating data from analytical test methods and process to ensure minimal variability and increased robustness and identifying trends or underlying issues
Knowledge and demonstration of proper safe handling/disposal of chemicals and ability to maintain a clean and safe workspace
Compile and present data and presentations to communicate data and other relevant information for continuous improvement, method development/validation, and other projects
Maintain instrumentation, tools, chemicals, and consumables required for product testing purposes
Document, process, transfer, and review analytical data to ensure completion, conformity, traceability, and validity, and support production and other internal/external customer needs; Take corrective action when necessary
Ability to multi-task and balance independent, teamwork, and time effectively
Dedication to meticulous attention to detail and organization
Strong dexterity, good eye-hand coordination, and ability to safely perform routine repetitive motions
Advanced mechanical inclination and experience operating electrical and nonelectrical laboratory equipment
The ideal candidate will be results and detail oriented, strive to be an excellent team player, and be able to apply their solid knowledge of chemistry, mechanical inclination, good lab practices, and familiarity with the criticality of materials science to this very impactful role in the semiconductor industry

Compensation: $95,000- $110,000 range with actual pay based on candidate experience

Please note, this role is for an existing vacancy with an expected compensation range of $95,000-$110,000 CAD.
