POSTION SUMMARY:

The Product Safety Engineer ensures machinery product safety design, product safety integration and product safety sustaining of Vanderlande’s North American automated conveyor system products and systems by doing safety design reviews and implementing machine safety solutions and programs across the North American markets and operations to protect the public, operations staff, and maintenance staff.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Machinery product safety engineering to national, regional, and local machinery product safety regulations and standards.
  • Conduct basic product safety testing
  • Create product safety machinery test reports
  • Conduct detailed risk assessments on machinery and processes to identify potential hazards and determine necessary safeguards.
  • Perform new and sustaining product design reviews.
  • Perform regular safety audits and machine capability checks, investigating incidents, and managing corrective actions for machine safety deficiencies.

OSHA 29 CFR 1910 Subparts:

  • A = General Provisions
  • D = Walking-Working Surfaces   
  • O = Machine Guarding

NFPA:

  • NFPA 70 - National Electrical Code
  • NFPA 79 - Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery

Others desired, but not required:

  • ANSI B20.1
  • ANSI B11 series (Machine Safety),
  • ISO 13849 (Safety-Related Parts of Control Systems),
  • IEC 62061 (Functional Safety for Safety-Related Electrical, Electronic and Programmable Electronic Control Systems).
  • ISO 12100 (Methodology - risk assessments)
  • Canadian equivalents of the above
  • Mexican equivalent of the above

​Education Required

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Occupational Safety and Health Engineering.

Experience Required

Min 3 years Proven experience in safety standard applications, safety design, safety validation of machine guarding, knowledge of safety components and their operation (e.g., light curtains, safety mats, interlocks, and emergency stop devices.
