Position Summary:

The Product Owner (PO) is responsible for organizing, prioritizing, and assessing work for a scrum team. They incorporate feature requests, groom and prioritize backlog, and develop user stories and acceptance criteria. The PO plans releases, follows progress, and analyzes end user preferences. They are instrumental in supporting the team with delivering value and commitments. The PO connects with the Business and contributes to the vision and roadmap for their respective products.  This specific Product Owner role is part of the IT Corporate Functions team and will support the Data Products Strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops customer and internal facing products with superior user experience across multiple verticals, accountable for low complexity product.

  • Develops product roadmaps and release plans.

  • Proactively addresses and resolves issues by collaborating with Agile teams, stakeholders, and business representatives.

  • Facilitates communication and planning between business and operations teams, User Experience (UX) design, product, engineering, analytics and customer support teams.

  • Resolves product related issues, makes decisions and continuously does trade off analyses to ensure development stays on track toward deliverable commitments.

  • Maintains the product backlog, prioritizing the items effectively and balancing them for short term business valuable product increment, mid-term opportunities to be seized and long-term problems to be prepared for.

  • Carries out customer research, product discovery and synthesizes market factors into a cohesive product strategy.

  • Facilitates and organizes feedback sessions with customers to understand challenges & opportunities.

  • Collects and analyzes information related to emergent customer behaviors and needs, profit drivers, strategic customers, business risks and other factors that could help in making business value driven decisions.

  • Executes epics and stories to support completion of initiatives; applies Agile product development approaches within assigned team.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems preferred, related field or equivalent experience.

  • Two (2) or more years of relevant experience required.

  • Product Owner Certification preferred

Agile Methodology - Agile project management is an iterative approach to delivering a project throughout its life cycle, taking incremental steps towards the completion of a project.

Backlog Management - A prioritized list of work for the development team that is derived from the roadmap and its requirements. The most important items are shown at the top of the product backlog, so the team knows what to deliver first.

Business Acumen - Applies knowledge of MPC’s business, industry and the marketplace to advance the organization’s goals. Makes decisions and recommendations clearly linked to MPC’s strategy

Decision Making - Ability to know when and what decisions should be made and to make several decisions simultaneously in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.

Industry Product Knowledge - Industry product knowledge refers to a comprehensive understanding of the products and services within a particular industry. It encompasses familiarity with the features, functionalities, applications, and specifications of the products offered by companies operating in that industry. Industry product knowledge is crucial for

professionals working in sales, marketing, customer service, product development, and various other roles within a company. It enables individuals to effectively communicate the value propositions of products, address customer inquiries, identify market trends, make informed business decisions, and contribute to the development and improvement of products and services within the industry. This knowledge often requires staying updated with the latest advancements, technologies, and market dynamics within the specific industry domain.

Product Development - The creation, innovation, enhancement or improvement of an existing product, or developing an entirely new kind of product to satisfy the requirements of its end-users.

Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) - The handling of a good as it moves through the typical stages of its product life: development and introduction, growth, maturity/stability, and decline.

User Experience (UX) - User Experience (UX) refers to the overall experience that a person has when interacting with a product, service, or system, especially in terms of how easy or pleasing it is to use.
