Search & AI Platform Organisation
Location: London or Amsterdam (Hybrid)
Level: Product Manager II or Senior Product Manager I (based on experience)

About the Team

We build Search and AI platform capabilities that power discovery and agent-driven experiences across Elsevier’s product portfolio and help people find, understand, and use knowledge from Elsevier’s content. Our work supports researchers, clinicians, and innovators across research, healthcare, and life sciences by transforming complex information into connected, searchable and actionable knowledge.

This role sits in the Search Platform group, which focuses on building and evolving robust, reliable, and scalable search infrastructure. As a platform team, we enable internal product and development teams by providing high-quality, trustworthy, and precise information retrieval capabilities that integrate across Elsevier’s products.

About the Role:

As a Product Manager in the Search Platform group, you will help shape and deliver the core retrieval services that power Elsevier’s products. You will partner closely with engineering teams and internal stakeholders to evolve capabilities such as lexical, semantic, graph-based, and identifier-driven search, while improving platform performance, usability, and internal adoption, supporting experiences used by millions of people worldwide.

This role offers hands-on ownership of platform initiatives, collaboration across multiple teams, and the opportunity to influence how search capabilities are leveraged in large scale and innovative AI-powered solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Own and deliver selected Search Platform initiatives end-to-end, from problem definition through release and drive adoption, aligned with shared platform OKRs
  • Translate internal product and engineers needs into clear platform requirements, balancing flexibility with long term maintainability
  • Work closely with engineering leadership to evolve the search stack and underlying architecture, supporting reliability, scalability, and modernization efforts
  • Collaborate with other teams (e.g content ingestion, experimentation) to enable seamless integration of search capabilities into product workflows and AI-driven experiences
  • Improve the developer experience by strengthening documentation, onboarding material, service clarity, and feedback loops with consuming teams
  • Define and track platform health metrics (e.g., performance, reliability, adoption) and use insights to guide prioritisation
  • Contribute to roadmap development and reusable platform patterns that serve support diverse use cases across Elsevier

Requirements:

  • Experience working on platform or infrastructure products that serve internal or multi-team stakeholders, ideally within search or data-intensive environments
  • Comfort working with engineering teams and technical stakeholders to deliver complex systems
  • Familiarity with search or retrieval technologies (for example: Elasticsearch, Solr, vector search, hybrid retrieval or graph-based systems)
  • Ability to work across multiple teams, balance competing internal stakeholder needs, and drive progress in ambiguous or evolving technical environments
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly and make thoughtful, data-informed prioritisation decisions
