Position Responsibilities

 

Product Manager, Global Medical Affairs Business Insights & Technology (BI&T) - Scientific Content & Publications is accountable for the product management & effective delivery of BI&T capabilities and services supporting Global Medical Affairs Medical Communications Teams at BMS, positioning BMS Medical Affairs for success in the digital era. This role partners with stakeholders in the BMS Medical Excellence Team, Therapeutic Area Teams along with the BI&T Content Capabilities Team and Worldwide Commercialization Excellence team to define and drive digital capabilities in the areas of Scientific Content and Publications. This position has a focus on understanding requirements and enabling capabilities such as Content usage/value metrics, Componentized and AI-generated Content, Content localization for international markets, Publications management, and integration of key content and publications data within relevant workflows. The vision of the Medical Affairs organization is to transform lives through patient-driven science. You will be expected to lead and accelerate Medical’s digitization through technology innovation, ensure that their information capabilities and operations are reliable, accessible and secure, and enable them to become competitively differentiated in a rapidly-changing complex scientific landscape. You will partner closely with matrix teams across the Enterprise to drive digital capabilities across Medical Affairs with an enterprise mindset. You will build strong partnerships with designated Medical leadership teams to drive adoption of digital capabilities and innovation opportunities.

Provide domain leadership:

  • Owns the Technology Roadmap: Drives the development of realistic and actionable multi-year strategic digital capability roadmaps, informed and jointly-aligned with the associated business process owners and Analytics counterparts. Prioritizes the portfolio appropriately and is accountable for the overall portfolio Execution, even if not always responsible for delivery. Intimately understands the data (quality, location, and value) that informs and is generated by these business processes.
  • Develops compelling business cases: Leads the prioritization and development of strong and clear business cases for digital capability investments in support of the roadmap and aligned with the platform strategy. Defines, measures, & achieves business outcomes for highest value (at the lowest cost) digital capabilities. 
  • Brings an external view: Actively maintains awareness of external drivers and relevant technology trends in the domain of their product ownership, bringing new ideas.
  • Knows what value looks like: Understands where BMS should be competitively differentiated through technology in Medical Affairs, translates business needs into specific business requirements, sees realistic opportunities for technology to add more value, and balances this with a pragmatic understanding of “fit for purpose”.

Provide strategic leadership:

  • Builds strong partnerships with senior leaders of Medical Affairs: Is viewed by senior business leaders as an effective partner who plans and delivers digital capabilities, safeguards their digital assets and supports their strategic goals.  
  • Recognized as a thought leader and trusted advisor: Influences the strategic thinking of senior business leaders, and helps business leaders to include future digital capabilities into their planning.
  • Builds relationships: Has effective working relationships with all relevant business leaders, is deeply involved with key business activities and forums, is responsible for building and managing effective business partnership at all levels during project execution, and takes full accountability for delivering the value proposition of BI&T.  
  • Enables change adoption: Partners with business process owners and change management leads to ensure technology delivery supports effective change management (e.g., release and cutover planning, impact assessment inputs, communications/training enablement, hypercare and support readiness). Ensures the required technical artifacts and inputs are delivered on time for each initiative to maximize adoption and value realization.

Leverages the matrix to drive portfolio execution:

  • Demonstrates Matrix leadership by leveraging other functions in delivery of services to Medical Affairs.  Such as internal BI&T partners: Core Services, Content Capabilities, Data capabilities and analytics.
  • Empowers delivery teams: Understands accountabilities throughout the portfolio lifecycle, such as gathering requirements from stakeholders, ensuring proper relay to delivery teams, and owning outcomes. Builds empowered and trusting partnerships with delivery team members at all levels including application owners, Cybersecurity, ITQA, etc.  
  • Constructively advocates for value: Ensures delivery teams understand how to make the right trade-offs between speed, quality and cost. Connects the business stakeholders with the broader BI&T services. Ensures value is being captured from the entire lifecycle of the investment (from launch through retirement).
  • Demonstrates good judgement in communication: Communicates successes and issues accurately, urgently, and to the right audience, and takes accountability for ensuring effective management of expectations with business leaders.
  • Boldly acts with urgency: Shows courage, tenacity and respect to provoke uncomfortable conversations in order to remove roadblocks to value delivery.

Required Experience           

  • Requires Bachelor's degree, MBA is strongly preferred.
  • Strong domain expertise in the application of BI&T to Medical Affairs, including a broad understanding of relevant Medical business capabilities (Publications, Scientific Content Management) and how they are enabled by technology solutions and data.  
  • 7-10 years of experience in similar roles in Pharmaceuticals IT for Medical Affairs or Commercial functions.
  • Track record of leading the analysis of complex and ambiguous business needs, and integrating those into compelling and actionable strategic plans and investment business cases with global reach. 
  • Experience in driving digital capabilities to create a superior customer experience.
  • Demonstrable commitment to assess and apply innovative AI and new technologies to use cases in Medical Affairs, achieving a balance between pragmatic value and transformation.
  • Experience of large-scale application deployments, and how to work with software & consulting partners ensure maximum value and effectiveness. 
  • Experience of maximizing value from enterprise BI&T platforms, including Veeva Vault MedComms and iEnvision.
  • Working knowledge of agile methodologies applied to SDLC and IT services.
  • Ability to drive strategic connections between Medical Affairs, Commercial and Clinical Development functions with an enterprise mindset and reimagine digital capabilities. 
  • Goal-oriented self-starter with ability to influence teams toward an executable vision.
  • Seasoned line and matrix management skills, with a particular emphasis on energizing and developing experienced IT professionals spread across multiple functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and support a dynamic culture of innovation and continuous improvement in line reports and in the matrix.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and presentation skills.
  • A network of external advisors and resources.

Compensation Overview:

Princeton - NJ - US: $166,600 - $201,880

The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee’s work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.

Paid Time Off

  • US Exempt Employees: flexible time off (unlimited, with manager approval, 11 paid national holidays (not applicable to employees in Phoenix, AZ, Puerto Rico or Rayzebio employees)

  • Phoenix, AZ, Puerto Rico and Rayzebio Exempt, Non-Exempt, Hourly Employees: 160 hours annual paid vacation for new hires with manager approval, 11 national holidays, and 3 optional holidays

Based on eligibility*, additional time off for employees may include unlimited paid sick time, up to 2 paid volunteer days per year, summer hours flexibility, leaves of absence for medical, personal, parental, caregiver, bereavement, and military needs and an annual Global Shutdown between Christmas and New Years Day.

All global employees full and part-time who are actively employed at and paid directly by BMS at the end of the calendar year are eligible to take advantage of the Global Shutdown.

*Eligibility Disclosure: The summer hours program is for United States (U.S.) office-based employees due to the unique nature of their work. Summer hours are generally not available for field sales and manufacturing operations and may also be limited for the capability centers. Employees in remote-by-design or lab-based roles may be eligible for summer hours, depending on the nature of their work, and should discuss eligibility with their manager. Employees covered under a collective bargaining agreement should consult that document to determine if they are eligible. Contractors, leased workers and other service providers are not eligible to participate in the program.
