Our summer internship program is meticulously designed to provide students with an immersive and dynamic experience within our industry, offering a taste of what it's like to be part of our professional team. AV is seeking a Systems Engineering intern to support multiple efforts within the Space Technologies business unit. The business unit has been developing the techniques, systems, subsystems, and design elements required to implement high reliability opto-mechanical and electrical space systems and components. The Systems Engineering intern is a key member of an integrated team operating in a very dynamic environment.

As part of this process, we are seeking qualified intern candidates in their second or third year of an accredited 4-year engineering program in order to identify potential candidates earlier in their career. The candidate will work across engineering disciplines to support our Systems Engineering team with lifecycle management of high-reliability electronic components in the PLM environment. Collaborate with engineering, supply chain, configuration management, and compliance to manage part metadata, ensure BOM accuracy, and mitigate obsolescence risk.

 Responsibilities:

• Create and maintain part records and attributes in PLM

• Review datasheets, material declarations, RoHS/REACH, and ITAR/EAR classifications

• Maintain lifecycle status, preferred/alternate parts, and obsolescence flags

• Support BOM accuracy and part-to-product traceability

• Identify at-risk components and research replacements

• Standardize naming conventions and classification structures

• Conduct data quality audits and improve workflows

 Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing an engineering degree from an accredited university; BS in EE/ME/IE/SE/CS or related

• Due to the nature of this position, U.S. Citizenship is required

• Familiarity with electronic components (passives, semiconductors, connectors, power)

• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

• Preferred: Experience with PLM/CAD/EDA tools (Arena, Altium, SolidWorks)

Strong ability to work in teams and collaborate with peers and internal customers

Work Environment

This job operates in professional and secure office and laboratory environment.  This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, and other equipment as needed.
