Product Engineering Intern

Position Summary:

The Product Engineering Intern provides support and solutions by leveraging general knowledge of design principles and manufacturing processes to refine product design and increase plant efficiencies, while meeting goals related to safety, quality, and production. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct hands-on tests for components, processes, and/or products in accordance with established protocols
  • Conduct investigative studies to identify root causes to address engineering, quality, and/or manufacturing issues
  • Develop component, machine tools, and fixtures in SolidWorks for use in engineering tests
  • Assist with research and development for innovative product engineering solutions
  • Assist with routine design updates for legacy products, including documentation, data collection, and data analysis
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure all aspects of new product introductions and changes to existing products are effectively communicated to stakeholders
  • Work cross-functionally with other departments to resolve assembly errors and eliminate variances by applying formal problem-solving tools (e.g., 5 Why’s, 8D, Ishikawa diagrams)
  • Adhere to and promote safety procedures and policies in all activities
  • Contribute to the engineering team’s success by achieving related goals as needed

Qualifications (Minimum Requirements):

  • Familiarity with iterative design processes and hands-on prototype manufacturing
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling and finite element analysis using CAD tools such as SolidWorks
  • Familiarity with software applications such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with of classical mechanical engineering principles such as GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), DFM (Design for Manufacturability), and RCCA (Root Cause and Corrective Action)
  • Familiarity with Statics and Dynamics, Statics, Thermodynamics, and Heat Transfer

Education Requirements:

  • Enrollment in a 4-year BS degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Biomechanical Engineering or equivalent disciplines

Physical Work Environment Will Require: 

  • Ability to work in an office, laboratory, and manufacturing settings environment 
  • Ability to move around an office, lab, and production floor to address production issues relating to products and equipment 
  • Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for 8 hrs/day 
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs., occasional heavier lifting
