An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Structures and Transmissions Product Design Engineer to join our Defence business in Bristol.

As part of the Global Product Design Capability function, this role is responsible for creating engineering solutions that satisfy functional and physical requirements associated with Product System level environments. The role is also responsible for ensuring that engineered solutions are robust for manufacturing capability, and for delivering Sub-System design definition artefacts to the required quality and timescales.

We are a market leader in aero engines for military transport and patrol aircraft, and also have significant scale in naval, and strong positions in combat and helicopter applications. We are pioneering more advanced and innovative power systems to ensure future combat air systems remain at the forefront of mission capability throughout their operational service.

What you will be doing

In this role you will:

  • Create engineering solutions that satisfy functional and physical requirements at Product System level.
  • Deliver robust design solutions that support manufacturing capability.
  • Be responsible for the on-time delivery and quality of Sub-System design definition artefacts, including documents, models and design definitions.
  • Ensure that design outputs meet system level requirements.
  • Support sub-system integration of the technical activities associated with your design solutions.
  • Work within an Integrated Project Team (IPT) described by the Product Lifecycle System (PLS).
  • Operate in accordance with applicable Rolls-Royce Management System (RRMS) policies and processes.
  • Enable lifecycle profitability through Supply Chain Design.
  • Support the development and integration of structures and transmissions design solutions across the product lifecycle.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone who has:

  • Qualification to degree level in an engineering or related STEM discipline.
  • Experience in product design engineering within a relevant engineering environment.
  • Ability to create engineering solutions that satisfy both functional and physical requirements.
  • Understanding of design for manufacture and the importance of manufacturing robustness.
  • Experience of producing design definition artefacts such as models, drawings and technical documentation.
  • Good understanding of sub-system integration and management of technical interfaces.
  • Ability to work effectively within a cross-functional Integrated Project Team environment.
  • Familiarity with governed engineering processes and management systems.
