The Product Category Manager is responsible for providing leadership to develop and implement product strategies that support market share expansion, profitable growth, customer acquisition, and increase in product penetration!

This role is approved to be Remote or will be Hybrid if you are in the Newport News, VA HQ area.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead strategic sourcing initiatives by identifying, evaluating, and negotiating with suppliers to optimize cost, quality, and supply continuity across assigned categories.
  • Analyze market trends, customer demand, and sales performance data to develop and refine product assortments that balance profitability, competitiveness, and customer satisfaction
  • Tailor intentional product strategy to support MRO customer needs in the Multifamily/Hospitality/Senior Living/Education space
  • Working with Supply Chain to execute DC stocking strategy that optimizes both fill rates and inventory turns
  • Develop and execute dynamic pricing strategies that achieve both competitiveness and enhanced profitability
  • Production of published and digitized product catalog – detailed pagination and proofing process
  • Develop and deliver foundational product knowledge and market training to the sales team through market walks, education sessions, and sharing industry insights.
  • Assist / provide category specific guidance in developing and execution of a marketing strategy that includes print, web and email campaigns
  • Drive growth of Ferguson’s Own Brand portfolio by developing differentiated product strategies, ensuring quality and compliance standards, and collaborating with vendors to deliver exclusive, value-driven solutions for customers
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to streamline processes, improve collaboration, and drive operational efficiency in support of business objectives.
  • Supporting renovation and special-order efforts
  • Producing customer-facing tools (catalogs, mailers, fliers, web banners, promotions, etc.) to attract and retain customers
  • Maintaining awareness of the competitive landscape and strategies to win
  • Perform data management and administrative tasks including cross-functional action follow-up, ensuring product/supplier/customer data integrity, resolving A/P late invoice or credit hold issues, driving out slow-moving product and inventory, and producing ad hoc reporting.
  • Support sales teams (inside, outside, national accounts) through job quote requests, special order sourcing, issue resolution, and daily communications.
  • Work collaboratively to organize and support development of national account strategies.
  • Assist Marketing with printed and digital customer-facing materials, sales incentives, promotions, tradeshow support, and web enhancements.
  • Sponsor and support product services and system enhancements, including part setup and compliance updates.
  • Engage in competitive benchmarking, assortment analysis, pricing evaluations, and cross-referencing between Ferguson and competitors.
  • Support facilities team operations, FEI engagement, and resolution of operational issues.
  • Trusted advisor to Ferguson Facilities Supply team on products, suppliers, customers, and industry trends.
  • Collaborate with vendor partners on product selection, education, and Ferguson Facilities Supply uniqueness.
  • Participate in product mix strategy, legislative compliance (certifications, regional restrictions), and intentional development of our Own Brand.

Preferred experience and skills

  • 5+ years experience in category management, merchandising, supply chain collaboration, and vendor relationship management.
  • Product knowledge/background in Electrical and/or Hardware a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Competency in databases, pricing systems, and reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of competitive benchmarking and pricing strategy.
  • Some travel required

Actual pay rate may vary depending upon location. The estimated pay range for this position is below. The specific rate will depend on a candidate’s qualifications and prior experience.

$6,374.70 - $13,933.70

Estimated Ranges displayed are Monthly for Salaried roles OR Hourly for all other roles.

This role is Bonus or Incentive Plan eligible.
