Product and Systems Test Engineer III

Job Summary

Responsible for developing initiatives, project management, supervision and service support for compliance of residential GAF products. Position includes these key functions: 

● Strategic Advantage… optimizing certification and testing achievement of all products.

● Steep Slope Testing - design, develop and manage product and system test programs. Supervise implementation of project testing. Also includes negotiations for services and pricing with agencies, implementing, evaluating and communicating results. Anticipates, develops and communicates contingencies for possible test outcomes. Collaborates cross functionally as a project manager and resolves disputes and disagreements diplomatically. Develops and maintains effective and mutually beneficial working relationships with project managers in other departments. 

● UL, ASTM, FBC, TDI, Miami Dade, ICC, CRRC, CSA, CCMC and all other product approval and testing support - researches and provides required technical data for submissions with the objective of gaining approvals that help build competitive advantage and sales. Communicates directly with Sales and/or Marketing to understand business needs specific to product and system certifications and applies this understanding to develop appropriate project test scopes. 


● Code Compliance - prevent liability issues by assuring all approvals are up to date and competitive and that all product approval documentation is up to date and accurate. 


● Product Specifications - responsible for overseeing editing to assure documentation meets code body requirements. Responsible for working with Purchasing and other functions as necessary to assure that raw material/BOM options provide necessary sourcing flexibility to support the business. 


● Mentors and coaches Product & System Certification & Testing Specialists and Staff Engineers on best practices. Imparts knowledge and shares experiences to support development of team members. 


● Identifies opportunities to improve efficiencies and service levels and makes recommendations accordingly. Assists with implementation. 


● Support Line Functions - advise, support company-wide initiatives including new product development, product improvements and cost improvements as they pertain to testing and compliance. 


● Technical Service – supply technical support for R&D, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Marketing, Sales, Technical Services, 411 Help Desk and Third Party Purchasing. 


Qualifications Required

  • Engineering or Science Degree
  • Minimum 3 years product and system testing and certification experience with roofing products or equivalent experience in product performance testing. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively cross functionally.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES 

  • 75% - Management and supervision of product and system testing and related communications (internal and external). 

  • 10-15% - Supply technical support for R&D, Supply Chain, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Marketing, Sales, Technical Services, 411 Help Desk and Third Party Purchasing. 

  • 10-15% - Mentors and coaches Product & System Certification & Testing Specialists and Staff Engineers on best practices. Imparts knowledge and shares experiences to support development of team members. 

  • 5-15% - Internal support of Residential and/or Commercial Testing & Certifications, R&D, and Quality Assurance, as required.

Travel Requirements: 30%

Base salary and/or rate of pay ranges listed are exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. Individual compensation offers will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to geographic location, relevant candidate experience and skill, education, and/or qualifications.

Base Salary Range: $92,000-$126,500
