Product Analytics Lead

San Francisco, Remote Full Time

At PicnicHealth, we're building the future of non-interventional clinical research, powered by AI and centered on patients. Our mission is to make it radically easier, faster, and more affordable to perform clinical trials and get better treatments to patients. We're replacing the legacy, services-heavy model with a modern, AI-first approach that unlocks insights from rich, multi-modal data—from clinical notes and imaging to lab results—at scale.  By engaging patients directly through our personal health assistant, PicnicAI, which meets them where they’re at and delights them along the way (with an industry leading NPS of 76), patients participate actively in the research they care about.

PicnicHealth is already a trusted partner to 7 of the top 10 pharmaceutical companies. Our work spans 40+ disease areas and has supported over 60 peer-reviewed publications, including an FDA submission that incorporates PicnicHealth data.

Founded in 2014, we’ve raised $100M+ from top investors like Amplify Partners, Felicis Ventures, B Capital Group, and Y Combinator. Our business more than doubled last year, and we’re on track to do it again in 2025. We’re a team of doctors, patients, data nerds, engineers, and builders, reimagining how clinical research works — and we’re just getting started!

The Opportunity

At PicnicHealth, we're scaling our AI-powered clinical research platform that's transforming how pharmaceutical companies conduct non-interventional studies. As we've more than doubled our business and prepared for continued growth, we need world-class product analytics to ensure we're building the right features, optimizing user experiences, and maintaining sustainable unit economics.

We're looking for a Product Analytics Lead to establish and lead a new function. This is a true player-coach role where you'll serve as the dedicated Product Analyst for one of our three  product modules - our core platform for executing clinical studies for pharma clients - while also leading a team of 2-3 Product Analysts supporting our other key products (Engage, our patient-facing experience, and Capture, our data processing engine). You'll report to the CTO and work closely with Product, Engineering, Design, and Finance teams to ensure we have a metrics-driven approach to product development across all products and can accurately model the costs and ROI of our product investments.  AI is at the core of everything we do. We're looking for individuals who are not just comfortable with, but genuinely excited by and actively experimenting with, the power and potential of AI.

What you’ll do:

As the dedicated Analyst for Run (~50% of your time), the product team responsible for end-to-end study execution:

  • Own Run product analytics end-to-end: Be the embedded analyst for the Run product team, defining success metrics, building dashboards, and conducting deep-dive analyses to optimize our pharma-facing study execution platform
  • Drive Run product decisions with data: Partner directly with the Run PM and engineering team on feature prioritization, experimentation, and performance optimization
  • Model Run unit economics: Develop detailed cost models for study execution, understanding the true cost per study, per patient, and per data point to inform pricing and efficiency initiatives

As Product Analytics Lead (~50% of your time):

  • Lead and develop the product analytics team: Manage and mentor 2-3 Product Analysts who support Engage (patient experience) and Capture (data processing), ensuring consistent methodology and high-quality insights across all products
  • Build product instrumentation standards: Design and implement comprehensive event tracking standards across our entire product suite, ensuring consistency and quality of data capture
  • Define company-wide product metrics: Establish North Star metrics and KPIs for each product area, create executive dashboards, and drive a culture of data-informed decision making
  • Scale analytics infrastructure: Partner with data engineering to build the analytics platform that enables self-service analytics and automated reporting
  • Influence product strategy: Synthesize insights across all products to present recommendations to the executive team, using data to shape company-wide product roadmap and investment decisions
  • Pioneer AI in analytics workflows: Lead the team in leveraging AI tools for accelerating analysis, automating reporting, and generating insights at scale

What You’ll Bring:

  • 7+ years of product analytics experience at high-growth B2B SaaS companies, with at least 3+ years leading analytics teams
  • Proven player-coach experience: Track record of successfully balancing hands-on analytical work with team leadership - you're energized by both diving deep into data and developing others
  • Deep expertise in product instrumentation, event tracking, and product experimentation (A/B testing, etc)
  • Proven track record of building analytics infrastructure from early stage to scale, including designing data models, implementing tracking plans, and establishing analytics processes
  • Strong experience with unit economics modeling and understanding of B2B SaaS metrics (CAC, LTV, retention, engagement metrics)
  • Expertise in SQL, Python, and modern BI tools (Looker, Tableau, or similar), plus experience with data pipeline tools (dbt, Airflow)
  • Exceptional communication skills - able to influence product strategy with executives while also partnering day-to-day with PMs and engineers
  • Experience with enterprise B2B products strongly preferred, particularly platforms used by external clients to manage complex workflows
  • Focus on and successful experimentation with integrating AI into your standard practices and workflows, and ideas for new applications here at PicnicHealth.

We expect all team members to be amazing in their roles and, ultimately, to move the PicnicHealth mission forward.

What is clinical research and why will PicnicHealth win?

Clinical research is the industry responsible for conducting studies to evaluate the effectiveness of drugs and treatments. Better trials lead to faster, more cost-effective drug development, ultimately resulting in more and improved treatments for patients. However, the process remains highly inefficient. Trials are a major bottleneck in drug development, and the promising advancements in biotech cannot translate to real patient impact unless clinical research becomes faster and more efficient.

The industry runs on outdated technology and manual processes. Research sites (hospitals, academic centers, doctors' offices) are overburdened and under-resourced. Contract research organizations (CROs), the organizations that traditionally run clinical trials for life sciences companies, typically throw hundreds-of-thousands of man-hours wrangling sites and cobbling together vendor software.

PicnicHealth has built technology that uniquely positions us to run faster, cheaper, and more flexible studies while removing burden from sites:

  • PicnicAI (trained on 350M+ clinician annotations over 100k+ patient records) is the only system that can effectively access and structure all participant EMR data trials need
  • Our AI health assistant (NPS of 76 in 2024) guides participants through study activities and enables most to be done at home
  • We're an integrated solution — virtual site, CRO, and software platform — with AI built in from the ground up, initially focusing on non-interventional research.
