Agave

Product Analyst

San Francisco, US Full-time

tl;dr we're hiring a sharp, semi-technical generalist to become a deep product expert. You'll work directly with engineers to spec, test, and ship product improvements — rolling up your sleeves in the weeds of complex integrations, edge cases, and real customer data. This role is about execution, not strategy. You'll report directly to our co-founder/CEO.

What is Agave?

Agave is one of the fastest-growing companies you’ve never heard of, until now. We’re the modern data infrastructure platform for construction, the world’s third-largest industry and one of its most technologically underserved.

Every day, contractors run into the same problem: their business-critical systems don’t talk to each other. These systems, for accounting, project management, estimating, payroll, and field operations each hold essential data — from job costs and invoices to budgets and schedules, and are the backbone of how contractors run their business, make decisions, and keep projects moving.

When these systems and data live in silos, the result is errors, delays, double-entry, and wasted money. Teams spend countless hours reconciling spreadsheets, chasing down missing information, and trying to stitch together a reliable view of their projects and finances.

Agave solves this by being the connective tissue across the industry’s most important tools. We integrate and synchronize data across systems so that contractors always have accurate, up-to-date information in real time. That shared data layer unlocks the next step: workflow automations that replace spreadsheets, emails, and one-off processes with reliable, system-driven execution across finance and operations — enabling teams to work faster, make better decisions, and avoid costly mistakes.

In just a few years, we’ve hit milestones most startups never reach: profitable for over 2 years, millions in recurring revenue with multi-year contracts, and backed by Accel, YC, and top executives from Procore, Autodesk, and PlanGrid.

We’ve built something people actually need, in a market most of Silicon Valley ignores — which is exactly why we’re winning. The only thing slowing us down is hiring. Our team is small, scrappy, and high-caliber, and we’re looking for the next wave of builders who will help take Agave from breakout startup to category-defining company.

Why are we hiring this role?

We're growing fast — 10% month-over-month — and our product surface is expanding rapidly. As we scale integrations and add new features, we need someone who can be the bridge between our engineering team and the messy reality of how customers actually use our product.

This person will own the investigative, speccing, QA, and rollout work that keeps our product moving quickly without sacrificing quality. You'll be embedded with engineers and will develop deep expertise in the systems we integrate with.

Responsibilities

Product Investigation & Spec

  • Become a deep expert on every system we integrate with — ERPs, field tools, accounting platforms
  • Investigate edge cases and unexpected behaviors in our integrations through structured debugging
  • Write precise, engineer-ready specs for new features, improvements, and bug fixes
  • Own the full lifecycle of features from discovery through QA and rollout

QA & Rollout

  • Design and execute thorough test plans before features ship
  • Catch edge cases that engineers and customers would miss
  • Document rollout steps and own post-launch monitoring

Customer & Internal Feedback Loops

  • Synthesize feedback from customer calls, support tickets, and onboarding observations
  • Translate implicit and explicit product pain points into actionable specs
  • Partner with the AM/onboarding team to identify friction points and prioritize fixes

Process & Documentation

  • Build internal documentation for integration behaviors, known edge cases, and common configurations
  • Create and maintain testing frameworks that scale as our product grows
  • Identify and improve gaps in our product development process

What we look for

  • Must have:
    • Hands-on: you'll be a full-time builder, not a manager. You must love operating in the messy weeds of nuanced systems, understanding their complexity and simplifying it for our customers. You will focus on product execution and delivery, less on strategy and market research.
    • Semi-technical: no need to code, but you must have at least 1 year experience working closely with APIs, databases, SQL, Postman, and similar tools. The more, the better.
    • Meticulous attention to detail: structured thinker who nerds-out on nuances, accounts for edge cases, and tests your work thoroughly before calling it done.
    • In-person: pumped to work in-person in SF 5 days per week.
  • Nice to have:
  • Experience building software products alongside software engineers and shipping products on tight timelines.

This role may be a great fit if….

  • You aren’t a developer, but you’ve built side projects/hustles. You will get more of a chance to flex your technical acumen here than in most product roles, often working side-by-side with engineers.
  • You like tinkering. The systems we integrate with are old, challenging, and sometimes unpredictable. If you enjoy discovering through trial and error in a sandbox, you’ll fit right in.
  • You’re good at puzzles, complex turn-based games, etc - Construction project financials are a large dependency stack with many variables. If you manage complex systems well, you’ll likely pick it up quickly.
  • You want to learn how software products get built. You will work with an extremely high-performing team that knows how to build great technology and products.

This role may NOT be for you if...

  • You want to be a product strategist or “CEO of the Product”. This role is about execution. Expect ~80% of your time spent on technical investigation, feature specs, QA, and rollout. If you want to own a roadmap and run discovery sprints, this isn't the right fit right now.
  • You prefer narrow, well-defined responsibilities. The scope here will evolve as we grow. You'll wear many hats and figure things out with limited direction.
  • You want a slow ramp. In your first week, you'll produce research docs that are ready for engineering to implement. We’ll expect you to quickly become an expert on the systems we integrate with, and every inch of our products. Naturally, this gives you outsized potential for growth.
  • You want a primarily customer-facing role. While you will interface with customers, this role will primarily focus on working internally with our product and dev teams.
  • You prefer remote work. We're in-person in San Francisco 5 days/week

Benefits

  • Healthcare: we cover 90% of your healthcare costs with several plan options.
  • 401k: we match 100% of your contributions, up to 4% of annual salary.
  • Performance Bonuses: we offer annual performance bonuses when we hit company growth goals, which are a % of your base salary. These are large, meaningful rewards that scale with the amount we grow in a particular year.
  • Relocation: sizable relocation bonus for folks currently located outside of the Bay Area, and a bonus for anyone (even within the Bay Area) who moves within a 15-minute walk of our office.
  • Gym: on-site gym with Peloton, squat rack, Tempo, Yoga setup, and more.
  • Visa: we sponsor Visas (H1B, TN, etc.) for candidates who are a good fit!
  • Commuter benefits: employees can make pre-tax contributions toward commuting costs, and we’ll cover the full cost of a Muni pass for those using public transit.

In-Person

  • We've built Agave in-person since day 1, and will maintain an in-person culture in San Francisco going forward. We form tighter bonds, build a stronger culture, and move faster since we're all working from one location.
  • Our office is at 101 New Montgomery Street, San Francisco, right near Salesforce Park, coffee shops & restaurants, and a bustling downtown. We believe building in-person is a huge strategic advantage, and we hope you’ll join us.
