The New York Post provides readers with the best in News, Sports, Pop Culture and
Entertainment – with signature wit, irreverence and authority averaging 90 million
unique viewers a month. Over the past 221 years, The Post has evolved into a
multi-platform media company spanning print, digital, video, audio, app, television and
commerce. Now the The California Post is launching in January to expand our voice to
the West Coast.


Our new California Post video team is seeking a Producer/ Video Editor Daily News
to research, write and edit videos for stories across our website, on a variety of news
topics. We are seeking a smart, enthusiastic news-lover with a passion for current
events.


Note: This is a 5 day a week, in-office position working 1-9 pm PST Monday through
Friday.


Responsibilities:

  • You will be the key person providing videos for California Post stories and making editorial decisions when it comes to video coverage for articles.
  • You will edit dozens of short videos on Premiere with quick turnarounds for our site and various social media platforms.
  • You’ll be responsible for creating sharp headlines and video descriptions, click-worthy thumbnails, smart playlisting and syndication.
  • Must be able to quickly write scripts for videos.
  • Be knowledgeable about what is available in our video library, as well as through wire services and social media, and be comfortable reaching out to clear video.
  • Must have strong research and editorial skills, including being able to source and verify video.
  • Communicate with the California Post editorial team, social team and New York Post video team throughout the day, and help oversee breaking news coverage on all California stories.
  • Use web analytics to monitor audience engagement with our videos and strategize for growth on various platforms.
  • Be a self-starter who jumps directly into the action throughout the day and is comfortable working at a continuous fast pace with little oversight.
  • Open to working alternative hours such as evenings, holidays or weekends when needed/news breaks.


Requirements:

  • 3+ years experience working in a fast-paced online news environment on deadlines  
  • Must have a keen editorial sense, as you'll be making editorial calls and will be responsible for accuracy.
  • Simple photo and/or video editing skills are key. Must be very fast editing in Premiere
  • A great eye for stories that are about to trend, and is able to think creatively about the best video approaches for these stories
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at once
  • Familiarity and use of mainstream video channels like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, X and more
  • Must enjoy working collaboratively and accurately in a fast paced breaking news environment but also a fun workplace
  • Attention to detail a must
  • Familiarity with content management systems is a plus such as WordPress, video CMS like JW and web analytics tools like Parse.ly.
  • Ability to work very quickly under pressure and juggle dozens of stories throughout the day
  • Organized, resourceful, and a team player. Must work well both in a group setting, as well as on your own.

Pay Range: 75,000 - 85,000
