Provide technical support to maintain safety and improve and optimize manufacturing operations and processes within manufacturing facility. This position has responsibility for maintaining safe working practices while improving conversion costs in manufacturing, directly impacting competitiveness and profitability in the AFNA business. Process Engineer (Quality Focused) will also assist process development, operations and technical groups in developing and implementing process improvements, troubleshooting production/quality issues, and transferring process/ troubleshooting knowledge to the organization. Provide technical support to sales, marketing, and customers as needed in troubleshooting existing products, enhancing existing products, and development of new products. Responsible for implementing and leading Continuous Improvement initiatives and facilitating world class operations management methodologies throughout the organization.
WHAT YOU GET TO DO
Maintains Safety as the number one priority in conducting daily responsibilities, responding to production crew needs, and developing and implementing process improvements for quality, waste and productivity improvement.
Provides statistical analysis in support of Quality Assurance efforts and improvements in the areas of; defect trends, complaint summaries, CpK machine analysis, material efficiencies and hold ticket summaries as appropriate.
Develop or improve test methods used in quality testing.
Work with department representatives to drive root cause analysis and corrective actions on quality and waste issues using continuous improvement (CI) tools.
Performs trend analysis and supports verification of external and internal Corrective / Preventive Actions.
Visit customers as needed to review product development, product quality, and/or resolve quality problems.
Works with plant BPI resources to ensure technical support resources are available to production at all times.
Works with manufacturing supervisors, production crews, and maintenance to troubleshoot manufacturing problems and develop corrective actions to eliminate the return of those problems
Participates in the evaluation of projects and waivers to aid in the effective scheduling and necessary product development coverage to minimize the risk of machine downtime and high waste due to developmental efforts in manufacturing.
Works with plant project engineering to facilitate equipment modifications to increase machine productivity and reduce waste.
Initiates and documents procedures to safely increase machine productivity and reduce waste while maintaining product quality per customer expectations.
Participates in the training of machine operators on new equipment installations, equipment modifications and new operating procedures.
May provide supervision to engineering co-op students depending on experience and workload, including performance evaluations, training and directing activities
WHAT WE VALUE
WHAT WE WANT FROM YOU
Minimum of five (5) years of manufacturing experience working in a quality assurance role or related department desired. Flexible packaging manufacturing experience preferred.
Proficient computer and data entry skills required. Microsoft Excel skills required. Statistical software such as Minitab preferred. SAP experience preferred.
Must have an understanding of common problem solving tools such as statistical analysis, DOE, Pareto charts and histograms. Experience in Lean Six Sigma with certification strongly preferred.
Experience in quality lab testing and instrumentation is preferred.
