Process Operator (Material Handling Shipping Unit)

We are currently seeking an Operator for our Material Handling Shipping Unit at our Faustina, Louisiana location. This loads, unloads and moves materials within or near plant, yard or work site, performing any combination of following duties: reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.  Conveys materials to or from storage or work sites to designated areas using payloaders, forklifts, bobcat loaders, ship loaders, reclaimers, locomotives and conveyor systems or other devices.  Monitors recording instruments, flowmeters, panel lights, and other indicators, and listens for warning signals to verify conformity of process conditions to plant standards of safety and efficiency.

Where will you work: Onsite at our Mosaic Faustina plant – (9959 LA-18, St. James, LA 70086).

Schedule: Rotating 12-hour shifts (5am/pm – 5am/pm).

What you’ll do:

  • Load ships, barges, and hopper cars with bulk dry and liquid materials.
  • Operate loader at ship / barge docks.
  • Operate payloader to feed product into feeders and elevators.
  • Perform PIC duties for loading / unloading of sulfur, ammonia, lime water, sulfuric acid, and phosphoric acid.
  • Coordinate loading activities at hopper cars to ensure appropriate amount of material and weigh loaded cars.
  • Serve as flagman as needed.
  • Operate locomotive as needed.
  • Walk work area and observe conveyors checking for spills and defects.
  • Collect samples of products being loaded / unloaded.
  • Provide initial troubleshooting for alarms and equipment malfunctions and communicate with operators / supervisors.
  • Write work orders for maintenance / repair issues.
  • Change valve alignments to switch pumps and perform lock-outs / tag-outs in preparation for maintenance.
  • Complete permitting for work orders.
  • Clean work areas as needed to include sweeping, hosing floor, trash pick up and shoveling.

What you’ll need: ​

  • Associate degree in process technology discipline is preferred but not required.
  • 1 year of industrial or manufacturing experience is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • Experience working in a team environment is a must.
  • Familiarity with an industrial environment is highly desirable.
  • Effective verbal communication skills is a plus.
  • Physical work environment is occasionally outdoors with exposure to varying degrees of hot and cold environments.
