job purpose:

The Process Engineer – Technical Team represents the fairlife technical team at their respective base site while being available to support other sites as needed. They will work on initiatives for capacity expansion, process/recipe changes, CI and troubleshooting, supporting processes and utilities. In fulfilling this role, the Process Engineer works cross-functionally with commercial, manufacturing, engineering, IT, quality, R&D, and other functions within fairlife. They will be the top liaison for procuring new processing and utility equipment while incorporating our learnings with new technologies and processes to improve quality, efficiency, and speed to market. Apart from the technical skills, this position will require a sense of purpose and ownership in your work, a sense of urgency in dealing with issues, innovative problem-solving skills, a desire to constantly learn, and above all, a 'One  Team' mindset to work through challenges. 

responsibilities:

With a focus on process and project engineering this role is responsible for the following:

  • Define objectives and design standards for capacity expansion projects, ensuring lowest risk and total cost of ownership
  • Develop design basis for new lines/plants, including mass/energy balances, process and utility flow diagrams, P&IDs, and validation protocols (HAZOP, FAT, IQ/OQ/PQ)
  • Define the standards to which all plant processes and utilities will be designed, automated, constructed and operated, ensuring compliance with relevant federal, state, local and fairlife regulations
  • Review and update functional specifications for processing and utility equipment; maintain documentation through commissioning and handover
  • Assist in developing and commercializing new technologies to improve product quality, efficiency, and speed to market
  • Review plant designs to reduce food safety risks and optimize efficiency; resolve complex processing issues escalated from plants
  • Develop systems for monitoring and improving milk production processes (e.g., reduce milk losses, extended run time, CIP optimization, energy/water/chemical reuse)
  • Collaborate with plant and project engineering teams to deliver projects on time and within budget; communicate design intent and project status to stakeholders
  • Build global industry relationships to stay current on best-in-class dairy processing designs; support commercialization of new products
  • Other duties as assigned

 

skills/qualifications required:

  • + years of progressive leadership experience in engineering and operations disciplines, background in low acid aseptic beverage preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering: Mechanical or Chemical Engineering with experience in the Dairy industry, or process engineering with experience in wider food industry. Advanced degrees or other professional certifications preferred but not required
  • Proven track record of improving manufacturing processes through re-design and automation, and the introduction of new technologies
  • Data analysis and Process modeling in Microsoft Excel is required
  • Process and utility modeling using software’s such as Aspen, SuperPro or others will be a value addition
  • Strong understanding of process/product interactions with the ability to provide comprehensive reports on risk assessment and primary recommendations
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication and presentation
  • Familiarity with instrumentation (flow meters, level transmitters, RTDs/temperature transmitters, level probes, etc.)
  • Soft skills: Ability to handle ambiguity and thrive in a fast paced, entrepreneurial work environment; Strong attention to detail; and analytical skills 

food safety requirements:

  • Notify management of any repairs or adjustments that are required that may affect product quality or food safety.
  • Perform all duties necessary to meet Company, Customer and/or Government requirements/standards as prioritized by the Company.
  • Ability to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Identify and record any problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the ingredients, processes, quality system, or safety system.

Reports to: Sr. Process Development Engineer

Travel requirements: Up to 75%, including some international

Base pay range:
$110,000$130,000 USD
