Process Engineer II

Position Summary:

Tarkett, a growing leader in flooring solutions, is seeking a talented, customer-focused Process Engineer to service the Chagrin Falls PVC Facility. This role is primarily responsible for leading manufacturing development initiatives across multiple departments, as well as supporting World Class Manufacturing (WCM), Lean, and Six Sigma processes throughout the facility. The Process Engineer will drive improvements in process efficiency and reduced operating costs by combining lean methods with data collection and analysis. This position reports into the Engineering Manager and partners with Production, Quality, Safety, Procurement and Maintenance Departments to eliminate process variation and execute cost reduction opportunities with a focus on Safety and Professional Maintenance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Own process definition in the plant and drive initiatives to improve process control
  • Drive improvements in productivity, quality (internal and external), and standardization
  • Integrate and document engineered solutions
  • Develop solutions to support ongoing manufacturing and equipment safety initiatives
  • Collaborate cross functionally with technical and production team to ensure that the production process aligns with the specified production outputs
  • Lead small to medium scale cross functional process improvement teams and projects to meet timelines and project goals
  • Support Senior Engineer on large scale projects to implement best practices, standard work, and process controls
  • Develop business cases and write Capital Appropriation Requests including project cost and justification with payback & ROI calculations to support operational needs
  • Provide technical expertise to internal and external customers
  • Providing and maintaining a safe working environment and encouraging safe work practices
  • Collaborate with Maintenance and Die Shop to provide a safe and efficient production environment
  • Create and/or update plant or machinery drawings as needed to support process improvements
  • Negotiate with and oversee suppliers and contractors on equipment installation, redesign, and troubleshooting.
  • Establish and maintain documentation and electronic files necessary to support the business unit. (SOPs, SMPs, Risk Assessments, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ReQUIREMENTS:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • BS degree in Engineering or Plastics Field, related technical degree, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of related experience
  • Proven development and implementation of process control procedures
  • Experience leading capital projects and managing process improvement efforts
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, to establish root cause and implement sustainable corrective actions
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office programs)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Possess a collaborative, customer focused attitude
  • Promote a safety driven culture

Preferred Knowledge / Experience:

  • Experience with PVC extrusion processes
  • Experience with extrusion equipment and controls (Davis Standard, Cincinnati Milacron, and/or Kraus Maffei)
  • Experience with material conveyance equipment and controls (Wittman, Conair, Novatec)
  • Experience with downstream extrusion equipment and controls
  • Experience with packaging and palletization processes
  • Experience with automation and robotics
  • Application of Lean principles, tools, and techniques
  • Experience using SolidWorks
  • Experience with SAP

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hand and eye coordination, use hand/air/electrical power tools, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.   Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception.
  • The employee must perform his/her job functions while observing Tarkett safety standards and regulations.  
  • The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes and airborne particles.  
  • Adherence to state and local health and safety mandates is required.
