PRIMARY FUNCTION:

To assist the surgical team, under the direction of a professional nurse, in transporting patients, managing room turnover, and maintaining cleanliness, supplies, and equipment.

Per-Diem:

  • Commitment to work either 60 or 84 hours per month
  • Shifts will consist of: 11:30a-8:00p and 3p-11p
  • Weekend Commitment: Every Other Weekend

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates proficient skills in the PAT role and performs patient care duties that contribute to the efficient, safe operations of the unit which may include but are not limited to: 
    • Performing appropriate skin prep procedures adhering to Procedure Area policy/procedure  
    • Assisting patient care team in the transfer of patient to and from bed/stretcher 
    • Assisting patient care team in positioning patient on Procedure Area table or holding patient extremity for skin prep 
    • Transporting of the patient to and from Procedure Area or department 
  • Cross-trained into either the perianesthesia tech role (to support PACU), the clerk role (to support the OR or PACU desk), or SPD certification (scope/ instrument processing support)
  • Provides necessary equipment/supplies for the patient care team which may include but not limited to:      
    • Maintaining and Restocking supplies 
    • Procedure Area room set up-- provides appropriate equipment/tables and obtains case cart or instrument sets needed for procedure. 
    • Performs between case cleaning procedures 
      • Cleaning entire Procedure Area room using infection control standards
      • Cleaning specialty equipment/instrumentation/ carts 
      • Returning used soft goods and instrument sets appropriately. 
      • Appropriately handling contaminated instrument trays, carts, specimens, and body fluids. 
  • Performs general area cleaning which may include but not limited to: 
    • Daily dusting, sweeping, mopping, care and maintenance to sub sterile areas, breakrooms, unsterile hallways, and other areas as needed. 
  • Troubleshoots minor equipment problems and initiates service calls for broken equipment as needed. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities to safely provide age-appropriate care to the patients served, under the direction of the RN. 
  • Responds to crisis situations and performs essential tasks under the direction of the RN. 
  • Professional telephone etiquette 
  • Functions as an effective team member, supporting the concept of team training.
  • Actively participates in unit activities
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, employees, and physicians, both verbally and in writing.
  • Acts as a preceptor for new employees in specific areas of expertise to improve clinical practice
  • Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:

Daily contact with patients, employees, physicians, and students.  Contact at various time intervals with families, visitors, community agencies, companies as well as public.

DIRECTION/SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:

PAT I

DIRECTION/SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Reports to Perioperative Supervisor.  Additional supervision by Nurse Manager, ANMs, PAT IV

Direction from local department RN/ST caregivers

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or equivalent. 

A minimum of two years’ full-time clinical practice is required, Perioperative experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge, skills, and abilities related to scrub responsibilities for the care of the neonate, pediatric,

adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient in the OR.

Knowledge of PCT responsibilities related to emergency procedures (Code blue, Code red, Code delta, heart alert, stroke alert)

Completes mandatory education

Basic knowledge of medical terminology

Maintains professional appearance wearing Christiana Care issued scrubs when appropriate

Ability to act independently within established procedures and protocols.

Ability to perform specific unit tasks as assigned by the RN.

Ability to exercise judgement, tact and diplomacy.

Ability to make decisions utilizing sound judgement.

Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.

Ability to utilize computer and keyboard.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

BCLS certification

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, lift, push, pull, carry, reach, twist, handle, stoop, climb as per unit-based Physical Demands Checklist.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Frequent exposure to biological, chemical and environmental elements, as per unit-based Physical Demands Checklist.

Hourly Pay Range: $19.84 - $29.76

This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
