As a Food Service Aide, you will be responsible for proper food handling, portioning, serving, preparing and cooking food. This is a hands-on role that will allow you to advance your skills and potentially move into other roles within Cleveland Clinic. 

 

A caregiver in this position works evenings from 3:30PM – 7:30PM. 

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Accurately dish up, portion out, assemble, weigh, measure and serve food items according to the production sheet, menu, setup diagrams or other communications.  

  • Arrange food on dishes in an appetizing & neat manner. 

  • Produce the expected volume and quality of work in an accurate and consistent manner following proper food handling procedures. 

  • Prepare quality food items in accordance with production sheets, recipes and menus.  

  • Operate kitchen equipment necessary to perform tasks, such as food processing and preparation equipment.  

  • Prepare food on the grill, in ovens or using induction stoves.  

  • Prepare cold food items and prepare vegetables.  

  • Assist the cook.  

  • Assemble, transport, pick up and disassemble patient trays. 

  • Assist in preparing, serving, setting up and cleaning up special dinners and luncheons for meetings.  

  • Follow proper sanitation procedures and maintain and leave a clean, sanitized and organized work area.  

  • Practice proper food handling techniques and the “clean as you go” policy.  

  • Load and unload the dish machine.  

  • Report any failures or malfunctioning equipment or utilities to a supervisor immediately. 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma or GED 

  • Experience in food service or the ability to perform food service general duties 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in hot kitchen around hot equipment and a variety of other potential hazards ranging from spills on floors to sharp cutting equipment (knives, slicer). Ability to withstand changes in work environment temperatures (hot kitchen to cooler).

  • An insensitivity to allergic reactions to required sanitation chemicals, gloves, food and supplies used and essential to the job.

  • Ability to work in wet environment with hands frequently exposed to water.

  • Must have physical qualifications to walk, stand for extended periods of time, as well as entering walk-in coolers and freezers to obtain needed products, with assistance when necessary.

  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
