This position is part of the Government Integrated Print Services, Government Publishing Office in Washington, District of Columbia.

Major Duties:

  • Transporting cargo consisting mostly of printed material and other special items associated with a printing plant, assuring that cargo and equipment on truck are properly loaded to prevent damage in transit.
  • Completing pre-trip and post-trip safety check sheets and records necessary information on Vehicle Manifest in accordance with office regulations.
  • Assuring that the truck is properly serviced; properly equipped to carry out loading and unloading operations; and cleaned by washing both the interior and exterior in addition to sweeping out the truck as necessary.
  • Handling skids, pallets or hoppers of metal weighing up to 3500 pounds in pull-off or pull-on operations at loading docks that may vary in degree of elevation between truck bed and platform level.

Qualifications: To qualify for the Printing Plant Worker (Motor Vehicle Operator), you must meet the following requirements: Applicants must meet the following Screen Out Element/Job Element #1 to be considered eligible for this position: Ability to do the work of a Printing Plant Worker (Motor Vehicle Operator) without More Than Normal Supervision. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed Screen Out Element/Job Element, which appears as question #2 in the online questionnaire. If your knowledge and ability in the Screen Out Element/Job Element is not sufficient, you will not receive further consideration. In addition to the requirement above, applicants must have the following knowledge and abilities: Driving medium-heavy delivery trucks; Operating an electric industrial forklift to move, stack, and load materials; Completing pre-trip and post-trip safety check sheets and recording necessary information on Vehicle Manifest in accordance with office regulations; Giving instructions to any assigned helpers; and Acting as a guide for truck driver during backing maneuvers. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
