Yahoo Mail has an exciting opportunity for a Principal/Staff Mobile Engineer to lead our Mobile platform strategy and explore React Native. As a staff mobile engineer, you will evolve the mobile culture and help build our apps in a scalable fashion. You’ll play a key role in our technology decisions and implementation, and you’ll see firsthand the impact that we’re making. You’ll build and support functionality in primarily React Native but also interact with native code for both our iOS  and Android apps. During this role, you’ll also have the opportunity to contribute improvements to open-source libraries.

This is a foundational engineering role: you’ll own tech stack, architecture, performance, and product experience end-to-end.

You’ll collaborate directly with design, backend, and product to shape how Mail works .

Responsibilities:

  • Architect and implement cross‑platform mobile apps (iOS/Android) using React Native delivering polished, native‑feel experiences

  • Explore building, Design, implement, and test features in a new React Native app

  • Scale up our business by designing, building, and supporting easy-to-use mobile applications

  • Make and implement technology decisions that support business needs without compromising security, privacy, or quality

  • Enhance existing systems to add new functionality, and to improve performance, stability, quality, and security

  • Drive and support the team’s commitment to code craft, cutting edge tooling, monitoring

  • Be a role model for showcasing mobile best practices, processes and culture to help Engineering teams improve their productivity

  • Work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to understand and refine product requirements

  • Provide mentorship to your peers in the broader engineering team through code reviews and education on best practices

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years’ experience building, shipping, and supporting react native applications. You’ve seen what works, and probably a few things that didn’t work

  • Have independently worked and delivered a small app or entire feature in a larger app. A proven track record of building and launching 0 → 1 mobile apps, ideally in consumer domains

  • Hands-on experience with modern RN patterns: custom hooks, Zustand/Recoil, Reanimated, FlatList, memoization, and performance profiling

  • Excitement about working in our mobile tech stack, which includes both React Native and Android/iOS Native

  • Ability to act with autonomy & self-direction while working well in a team environment

  • Willingness to pitch in wherever needed - as a fast-moving company we need to do good work, quickly

  • Comfortable with working across domains and languages with a curiosity to experiment & learn new things

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, including quickly getting up to speed with new technologies

The compensation for this position ranges from $143,625.00 - $299,375.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
