As a Principal Embedded Software Engineer or Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer located in Manhattan Beach, CA, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one.

In this role, the Embedded Software Engineer will be responsible for software migration, enhancements, and full cycle testing to support Payload Flight software. This includes work on Payload Flight software, test scripts, data analysis, and processing tools.
 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, document, test, and debug applications software and systems with logical and mathematical solutions.
  • Conduct software migration and enhancements for Payload Flight software systems, ensuring full functionality across all phases of integration and testing.
  • Perform data analysis and develop processing tools to optimize software performance and compatibility.
  • Ensure compliance with established software standards and industry best practices.

This requisition may be filled at either a Principal Embedded Software Engineer or Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer level based on qualifications listed below.
 

Basic Qualifications - Principal Embedded Software Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related STEM degree with 5+ years of software development experience OR Master’s degree in STEM with 3+ years of software development experience, OR Ph.D. with 1+ year of software development experience
  • Strong proficiency in C or C++ programming
  • Experience with Solaris Unix or Linux operating systems
  • Prior experience working with embedded software systems development, integration, and testing
  • Candidate must have an active DoD Secret Clearance at the time of application
     

Basic Qualifications – Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related STEM degree with 8+ years of software development experience OR Master’s degree in STEM with 6+ years of software development experience, OR Ph.D. with 4+ years of software development experience
  • Strong proficiency in C or C++ programming
  • Experience with Solaris Unix or Linux operating systems
  • Prior experience working with embedded software systems development, integration, and testing
  • Candidate must have an active DoD Secret Clearance at the time of application

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with VxWorks and Windows
  • Experience working on MILSATCOM Payload programs
  • Proficiency in Perl and Python
  • Experience with the Atlassian Tool Suite including Jira and Confluence
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking skills to resolve software development and migration anomalies and analyze test results

Primary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
