About AGF Capital Partners
The AGF Capital Partners team is responsible for building a diversified alternatives business, focused on significant growth opportunities in the private equity, real assets, private credit, and liquid alternative sectors. Building on AGF’s existing alternatives and private markets experience, the team is tasked with developing and implementing a long-term strategic plan to build a multi-boutique alternatives business that will stand alongside AGF’s public markets business and expand the breadth of offerings and value proposition to our clients.
A small team, designed to be nimble and forward thinking, we operate with a flat structure and shared responsibility, with each team member working across a range of tasks and leveraging AGF’s breadth of resources on behalf of our affiliate managers.
AGF Capital Partners multi-boutique structure currently serves three affiliates:
AGF SAF Private Credit Management LP, a joint venture with SAF Group, a Calgary based private credit manager, focused on mid-market direct lending in Canada.
New Holland Capital, a New York based multi-strategy, absolute return asset manager with ~$9 billion of assets under management.
Kensington Capital Partners, a Toronto based mid-market private equity and venture capital asset manager with ~$2.3 billion of assets under management.
AGF Capital Partners’ affiliate managers collectively manage approximately $14B in assets across private equity, private credit, venture capital and absolute return strategies.
About the Role
This is a great opportunity to play a key role in the development and execution of the AGF Capital Partners’ distribution strategy for retail and high net worth investors for the Western region. Reporting to the Managing Director, Wealth Solutions, you will be part of a small team environment with a dedicated Capital Partners fundraising team that is focused on raising capital through IIROC, private investment counsel (PIC) and high net worth (HNW) channels. As AGF Capital Partners expands its manager relationships and strategies, the Principal, Wealth Solutions (Western Canada) will be a key member of the team, helping to guide the direction of sector priorities, product development and channel focus for Western Canada (Manitoba to British Columbia).
Your Responsibilities:
Work closely with the Managing Director, Wealth Solutions to help develop and execute the sales plan for distribution of AGF’s alternative strategies within the target channels for the region.
Leverage key existing relationships in the wealth advisory space to identify and execute on opportunities to grow AGF’s alternative AUM.
Responsible for full sales life cycle including identification, relationship management and closing of sales of AGF’s alternatives strategies.
Work with the Managing Director, Wealth Solutions to develop channel strategies, identifying key target firms and goal setting within the Western region.
Work in partnership with AGF’s marketing team on developing marketing and sales strategies that utilize the breadth of our capabilities to support the region.
Maintain close and regular communication with AGF Investments distribution team to ensure effective cross-selling of our traditional and alternative products and to ensure proper client relationship management across our public and private markets businesses (will include intelligence sharing, national sales call participation ad hoc regular engagement).
Stay up to date and engage with AGF Capital Partners’ affiliate managers in update and training sessions to develop a deep understanding and technical knowledge of their sector, investment dynamics and key features to ensure a best-in-class level of expertise for our clients.
Support the ongoing efforts to expand AGF’s alternatives investor base by contributing sales/distribution/education subject matter expertise and market intelligence to ongoing marketing and investor reporting activities, with a targeted focus on driving the closing of sales and converting prospects into committed investors.
Your Skills and Qualifications:
A proven track record in building, maintaining and growing relationships across multiple channels with a key focus on “corner office” IIROC (Bank and independent) in Canada, typically gained through at least 8-12 years of relevant sales experience including a strong history of successfully closing complex transactions and meeting or exceeding sales targets.
Demonstrated success in achieving and growing sales efforts in the investment management space, ideally with experience in distributing alternatives and offering memorandum products.
Ability to quickly develop credibility and trust through a clear understanding of client needs and product details, which includes the ability to communicate and distill alternative investment strategies to be understandable to advisors.
Solution-centric, with a demonstrated ability to analyze market data and develop fundraising strategies that tie back to higher level strategic objectives and maximize success through the selection of the right channels, product structures and marketing methods.
Strong multi-tasking abilities to work across multiple strategies, products and affiliate managers at any given time.
Strong executive presence, exceptional relationship management capabilities, and experience interacting with executive leadership.
Self-motivated, results driven and able to work independently.
Team-player, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
