Principal, Product Design – Design Systems
Location - This is a flexible hybrid position - 3-days per week office based in Prague.
We’re the Product Design team at Gen. We work on the world’s best digital security products - including Norton, Avast and AVG. Our family of brands harness the latest technology to create cybersecurity, identity protection and online privacy products that are chosen and trusted by hundreds of millions of users around the world.
As member of the Design System team, you will help drive the creation and evolution of Gen’s multi-brand, platform agnostic design system, aligning to Gen’s design principles and accessibility standards. You will help set the bar for design quality and innovation across the organisation.
This role requires a systematic approach to solution design, combined with strong product design skills, a strong sense of aesthetic, a passion for complex problem solving, experience with the latest accessibility standards, and outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Evolving and scaling Gen’s product design language into a unified, multi-platform design system, ensuring components, tokens, and patterns scale consistently across brands, platforms, and surfaces (Mac, iOS, Android, Windows, Web)
- Leading cross-functional alignment to break down silos, influence platform consistency decisions, and guide teams through migrations, breaking changes, and multi-product patterns
- Conducting systematic audits across UI, visual language, accessibility, and component usage, using analytics, partner feedback, and design-dev quality signals to inform roadmap decisions and continuous improvements
- Establishing and maintaining design system quality standards, including design-dev alignment workflows, documentation frameworks, usage guidelines, and onboarding materials that enable consistent adoption at scale
- Mentoring designers across product teams on interpreting and applying system guidelines, ensuring effective onboarding, consistent usage, and a high level of craft across surfaces
- Driving innovation in tools and workflows including automation, design QA, documentation pipelines, and design-to-code approach to make teams faster, reduce defects, and improve design-dev collaboration
- Staying ahead of industry standards and best practices, leveraging the latest in accessibility, multi-platform UI, design tokens, automation, and design–engineering integration to shape future system evolution
About you
- 8+ years of experience in user experience, product design, or adjacent design disciplines
- 4+ years of hands-on design systems experience, including building or maintaining scalable, multi-platform component libraries and token-driven systems
- Expert-level visual and interaction design skills, with a portfolio demonstrating multi-platform pattern design, sophisticated visual systems, and scalable UI architectures
- Deep understanding of design system architecture, including token hierarchy, accessibility standards, and multi-brand theming strategies
- Fluent in design-engineering collaboration, with foundational knowledge of engineering principles, implementation constraints, and best practices for componentisation, tokenisation, and code quality
- Data-driven decision maker, using telemetry, usage analytics, bug patterns, and customer insights to drive system evolution and prioritisation
- Thrives in detail and systems thinking, able to maintain a high bar of quality while balancing long-term system strategy with pragmatic short-term needs
- Strong cross-functional communicator and advocate, able to engage senior leaders, engineers, product managers, and non-design stakeholders with clarity and influence.
- Experienced in leading multi-disciplinary collaboration, working alongside content designers, motion designers, illustrators, UX/UI designers, product managers, and engineers
- Passionate about raising design maturity across an organisation, through mentorship, training, frameworks, and community-building
