Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal Test Engineer level 3 to work with a team of  engineers to troubleshoot and perform failure analysis. This role will involve developing and maintaining test plans, procedures, and reports with minimal supervision, as well as the creation of test reports to document test results. The candidate will be working in a cross functional team to coordinate test efforts amongst program stakeholders and test results. This position will require travel to support the test program of the AARGM and AARGM ER LRIP Production programs.

The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Test and Evaluation Engineering department, Advanced Weapons division.  This role is 100% on site at our Northridge, Ca site with no remote or hybrid opportunities.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for data summary, distribution, and test report authorship.
  • Develop executable test plans which address technical specification verification requirements
  • Work with internal and external customers to define and document instrumentation, data requirements, and test planning including acquisition, processing, and analysis to satisfy test objectives
  • Demonstrate proficiency with test planning and result communications such as Word, PowerPoint, to facilitate Customer briefings communicating test results and path forward
  • Proficient in the use of Logic Analyzers, Software Based Debugging tools, In-Circuit Emulators, RF Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, and Signal Generators
  • Continually improve processes to address deficiencies and best practices
  • Develop and maintain test plans, test data, test reports, and test procedures
  • Perform data collection and use of reduction tools such as MATLAB, LabVIEW, Excel,

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) with 5+ years of experience OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline with 3+ years of experience.
  • Experience with using different test equipment, i.e. oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, DMM, signal generator, power supplies
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics
  • Ability to obtain a government issued Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Designs, develops, and implements testing methods and equipment
  • Experience using Microsoft Office
  • Able to communicate effectively and clearly to present technical approaches and findings
  • Able to work independently with minimal direction and act as team lead for larger test efforts
  • Experience in writing test plans and test reports
  • Able to present technical data to upper management

Primary Level Salary Range: $103,600.00 - $155,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
