About the Job :
The Red Hat Engineering teams are looking for Principal Software Engineers to join our Core Platforms Engineering group to work on File Systems, Storage, and High Availability technologies in Linux.
The File System team works closely with the Linux community to maintain and enhance Red Hat’s core file systems - critical to the performance and stability of the operating system and our customer’s data. This includes both local and network file systems.
The Platform Storage team’s work includes device drivers, storage protocols, storage management tools, and their APIs and libraries. Platform Storage works with hardware vendors, the Linux kernel and other upstream communities to ensure reliable, feature-rich storage solutions; like, LVM, Stratis, Software RAID, dm-crypt, and multipath.
The High Availability (HA) group creates software that mitigates service disruptions in Linux based clusters. Mission critical applications rely on this software to handle hardware failures, power outages, machine crashes, and other failures.
You will be responsible for all aspects of coding and quality, you will collaborate within an Agile Scrum team to design, develop, validate and support updates to existing products, evolving hardware, and new features.
As a Principal Software Engineer, you will have the chance to work with some of the brightest engineers in the open source industry while acting as an advocate for our customers. We'll need you to have excellent technical and creative thinking skills, as you'll be encouraged to develop innovative solutions to technical issues on a daily basis. This position is a great opportunity to make a difference in the Linux operating system space while working on solutions used by people around the world.
What you will do:
Play an active part in upstream and downstream projects related to the team you are in
Working in the Agile Scrum methodology,
take end-to-end ownership of specific areas including upstream development, downstream validation and packaging, L3 troubleshooting and support.
take shared responsibility around problem resolution, ongoing quality engineering, as well as handling vulnerabilities and other backports targeted at released versions.
What you will bring:
Proficiency in applying core languages such as C or Rust to enterprise projects.
Proven ability to design and architect large, complex changes at the project level - often explaining, coordinating, and deconstructing tasks for other engineers
Ability to leverage AI-assisted development and/or validation tools and techniques
Required Full English proficiency (verbal and written). Ability to work with globally distributed teams or communities.
The following are considered a plus:
Past experience collaborating with Open-Source communities like the Linux kernel - esp file systems and storage
Public code contributions, Speaking opportunities at conferences, Blogs or articles published
Any additional computer languages
