Position Summary Do you have experience in fin tech or supply chain tech and a passion for solving hard problems?  Walmart is building a small but mighty team to work at the intersection of accounts payable and supply chain, addressing potential issues early in the Inventory lifecycle to ensure accurate and timely payment to our suppliers.  We’ll gather data and form hypotheses, rapidly build POCs, then test and learn.  We’ll find agenting solutions that pull data from disparate sources to streamline complex business processes.  When we find what works, we’ll grow our team and build for Walmart scale. As a Principal, Software Engineer you’ll lead the development of scalable, intelligent data solutions. This role blends software engineering, data engineering and cutting-edge AI capabilities to support advanced analytics and operational reporting across multi-cloud and legacy environments. You will work on designing/building robust data models, data pipelines, deploying AI-powered workflows, and integrating agentic systems to drive business outcomes. What You'll Do
  • Understand and translate business needs into data models that support scalable solutions.
  • Create conceptual, logical, and physical data models using best practices to ensure high data quality and reduced redundancy. Understand the existing ecosystem and optimize data flows and reduce duplicate pipelines and datasets, enabling single source of truth of data.
  • Work with development teams to implement data strategies and build data flows. Maintain and update models as needed.
  • Establish and enforce standards and procedures for data management and integrity.
  • Design, build, and optimize data pipelines.  Develop and deploy workflows.
  • Ensure data quality, lineage, and governance using tools like Apache Hudi, GitHub Actions, and Terraform.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support operational reporting.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline performance and reliability across environments.
  • Develop Agentic AI capabilities to automate decision-making and enhance data-driven insights.
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in data engineering/software engineering.
  • Strong understanding of real-time data processing, model inference pipelines, and infrastructure at scale.
  • Proven success designing internal tooling for analysts, operations, or data science use cases.
  • Solid understanding of data warehousing, ETL processes, and data modeling.
  • Skilled in conceptualizing and implementing agentic AI systems that translate complex intelligence into automated, scalable decision frameworks aligned with strategic outcomes. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of effectively conveying complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of supply chain and accounts payable domains is a plus.

The annual salary range for this position is $132,000.00 - $264,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
