The Immunology and Inflammation Research Therapeutic Area in Sanofi is building a center of excellence on Immune Regulation and Autoimmune Diseases (AID) at the Vitry site and is seeking a Principal Scientist with expertise in Immunology and in vivo pharmacology to lead the in vivo pharmacology research activities within Immune tolerance and Autoimmunity cluster.

His/her activities will concentrate on supporting and validating novel therapeutic concepts in immune regulation and tolerance with the potential to lead to transformative treatments of autoimmune diseases and contribute to multiple preclinical innovative projects. The team will also be responsible for the development of animal models to assess innovative therapeutic modalities supporting transformative therapeutic development.

Main responsibilities:

  • Manage the in vivo pharmacology activities of multiple projects within discovery and development
  • Provide in vivo physiology and pharmacology expertise and serve as in vivo pharmacology lead for research programs within the cluster
  • Develop and implement new animal models of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases to evaluate the pharmacodynamic effect and efficacy of innovative therapeutic agents to support portfolio progression
  • Identify and develop clinically relevant mouse models of target inflammation/autoimmune indications
  • Use detailed knowledge of state-of-the-art tools and approaches to enhance in vivo evaluation of novel therapeutics mechanism of action and/or identify new targets
  • Identify and develop ex vivo analytical tools that can be used to maximize the read-outs from in vivo studies
  • Present research findings and data to project teams
  • Lead external collaborations and outsourced studies
  • Maintain records (including study protocols, procedures, data reports, and related documentation)
  • Ensure compliance with company established practices and maintain the highest standards of animal welfare and ethical compliance and data integrity
  • Enable productivity, execution with a sense of urgency, teamwork, accountability, scientific rigor, and excellence
  • Supervise in vivo scientists and technicians

  

About you

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Immunology, Pharmacology, or related discipline with strong expertise in in vivo pharmacology applied to immunology in academic facility or biotech or pharmaceutical industry
  • License holder of an Animal Experimentation Designer Level valid in France (mandatory)

Experience:

  • Deep knowledge of immunology, mechanistic understanding of autoimmune or inflammatory pathologies
  • Proficiency in establishing in vivo PK/PD and efficacy models of immunology/autoimmune diseases
  • Extensive in vivo pharmacology expertise in working with rodent inflammatory models and in molecular, cellular biology and immunological assays (e.g., Flow cytometry, cytokine measurement) required
  • Well-established hand-on experience with in vivo dosing, bleeding, and handling techniques and proficiency on basic surgical techniques

Soft skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: impactful oral and written communication
  • Demonstrate a high level of autonomy and initiative to troubleshoot and accurately perform data analysis on in vivo studies
  • Self-motivated team player and fast learner with the ability to adapt in a fast-paced, dynamic and multi-disciplinary environment

Technical skills:

  • Proficiency and hands-on experience in technical skills to conduct efficacy, pharmacodynamic, pharmacokinetic and biodistribution studies in rodent models of autoimmunity and inflammation
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams
  • History of moving product candidates through preclinical studies to IND is desirable

Languages:

  • English (French desirable)
